Must Have Hi-lift Accessories

A Hi-lift is an incredibly versatile and helpful tool both on and off the road. I don't have one, so I ordered one. What are some of the absolute must have accessories for these that you all recommend for on and off-road emergency and recovery situations?

You'll want to make or buy a base for it, for mud or snow or sand. Ditto a winching kit (see the Off Road Kit), you can put it together yourself or buy it outright. The LiftMate is awesome. Get a handle keeper. If you don't have the Extreme or whatever it is with the cool tip, get a Jackmate.

For me, the must haves are:

- Slider adapter

- Larger base with grippier contact surface

- Handle keeper and bungy cord (the rattling can drive you nuts)

- Can of WD-40 or other spray lubricant

- Pair of leather work gloves

- Practice using it before you really need to use it

Nice to have:

- Neoprene cover

- Lifemate for lifting the wheel

x2 on the handle boot otherwise the rattling is unbearable! And the can of WD40 to just lube it up whenever you use it. The cover is a good idea if it's outside the truck too, I need one since in the winter the jack will get frozen and is a ***** to get the ice off and jack through it.

I bought that from SBE Fabrication (Schino Brothers Engineering) about 5 years ago and have used it several times on the trail. I just did a search for it and it seems they're no longer in business. The problem that I found with using the base that comes with Hi Lift is that metal on uneven, rocky surfaces can be dangerous and downright scary. Even more so if it's wet. The larger base and rubber tire tread helps out quite a bit. It's probably something you can do yourself just by looking at what SBE did. The plastic Hi Lift Off-road Base only helps with alleviating sinkage on sand or soft ground. It's a nice accessory to have but won't address the conditions I mentioned above. The link that KidV listed seems like a good answer to the stability issue.

I've never found anything Hi Lift related to be a "must have", including the jack.

I used to drive around with one on my rig all the time, but after it never leaving for anything other than farm work in 25+ years it came off the Jeep and took residence against a wall in my barn. I prefer a bottle jack both for size and safety.

Glad you posted up Dawg4Runner, did a in depth search for them as I like the principle on this base. Thought I might have to just build one myself. Might be a bit more than what you paid due to the time involved putting together, but, worth it in my eyes. I see the plastic one having the same problem as the stock metal one.
