MY 2014 T4R Limited (Magnetic Gray)

I thought I'd post my own thread to 1) show off my new ride with my freshly tinted windows, and 2) to get some opinions.

As I stated, I got my windows tinted and, IMO, it looks SO good. I've never owned a car that wasn't black or white, but when I saw the magnetic gray limited, I fell in love!

What I want to get some opinions on are the wheels! I have always loved the look of the 5th gen limited wheels, but I DESPISE how narrow they are! I am wanting to add some new wheels (and possibly tires) within the next two months or so and wanted to get some suggestions from you guys. What wheel (20") do you think would look best on my ride?!

another option is to move down to the 17" rims. save $$$ on tire selection and bigger pool of rims.

there is only 3 tires to pick from in the 20" size for the 4runner and about 60-100 rims to select from based on tirerack.com

thats what i have been looking to get an idea, if i can get it past the warden.

Truck looks awesome!!! If you want to save money as the poster above said, go with 17". Will probably also help if you go off-roading to have 17's vs 20's just because you might have a rubbing problem based on how wide your tires are, but you might be safe, just something to think about. And that's cool that you're in western NC, those mountains are NICE!

Nice new ride but that pic doesn't do that car and color any justice. As for new wheels/tires on a truck, I say go with what others are saying and downsize to a 17" setup. I think 18-20" wheels are fine for crossover type SUVs but for an offroad capable 4runner, a rugged look suits it better regardless of the trim level (TE, SR5, LE).

You haven't shared what type of driving conditions you tend to do but I suggest reading up on this AT tire review. After reading through and it seeing the pics, the Cooper Discoverer ATP/AT3 would be high on my list. Looks just aggressive enough but not hardcore offroading like the well loved Duratracs. Not to mention the Duratracs will cost you a pretty penny more.

As for wheels, if budget is not an issue, I think a lot of folks will suggest Konig Six Shooters. On the other hand, if budget is a concern, I find the Level 8 MK6 in Gunmetal very attractive in appearance and price. You can't beat the weight/performance of the Konig but after staring at both wheels, I prefer the lines of the MK3 but that's just an opinion.

I don't understand why people hate the limited's tires so much. They are only a half inch thinner than most wheels. A half inch! They also look awesome and a thinner rim is dynamite in the snow. My 4Runner drove great on them.

Are the 2014 stock 20" rims still 7" wide? Or did they make them 7.5" now?

Keep the 20"'s. Downsizing to 17's wouldn't do that vehicle justice.

There are a lot of LE's in my area and most have moved on to something wider than the OEM, including me. Keep those bad ass 5.5 gen LE 20's and just get new rubber. Nitto terra grappler is a great option for example.

probably becuase there is only 3 tires at the 20" size (2 all season, 1 winter), compared to 94 at the 17" size.

it has nothing to do with the rim.

245/60/20 vs 265/70/17 which you can get in a LT tire.

First off, congrats on your new toy!!! you must be on cloud 9

Regarding your wheels/tires. All depends on what you will be using the truck for, in my opinion.

I personally love what they have down with the black/silver finish. Put some CrossContact LX20 , i hear good reviews and they fit 7" width wheels.

I wouldn't put anything made for 7.5, having that if or maybe happening, doesn't sit well when my little one is riding around in it.

If you are going to use for off road, than I would go with 18's or 17's for more sidewall protection and wider selection of AT tires.

That is a sick wheel!! I might have purchased those for my truck if they were around when I was in the market for some.

AT3 tires are great, 15k on them so far and no complaints!!

Because their are only 3 tire choices for that tire size (145/60/20) and none are worthy of taking off the beaten path. They look great, but that half of an inch is an industry breaker for some reason. Most AT tires recommend a 7.5 width tire.

The best way to find out is,if the original poster or someone with a 2014 LE look at the spare wheel mounted under there and see what is says. It should say something like 20x7 1/2j, or 20x7.5j. I don't plan on going back to stock. I'm just curious to see if toyota has changed them.
