2015 SR5 Premium

I just got my part and installed in a 2015 SR5 Premium. No luck for me! Can anybody confirm this sensor will work in a 2015 SR5 Premium? I have 3 wire harness just like those pictured above, have made sure panel lights aren't locked on max dial, changed entune 2.0 to not override night mode... just doesn't want to work.

Or... possibly a bad sensor!?!? Any ideas or confirms?

When I first installed my sensor, I tested it with a LED flashlight in the garage, and nothing, it didn’t seem to work (thumbwheel not clicked up).

A few days later, I changed the brightness setting in Carista, and now it works great. I had originally posted that it didn’t work.

Sensor needs wiring on 2015 SR5 Premium

I pulled my panel apart today and was really frustrated at what I found (see pics). It appears that the secondary harness from the light sensor does not terminate at the MPX Body ECU. I looked everywhere for the sensor wires (red, blue, pink) and could not find them anywhere. Did not remove the instrument cluster to look behind there.

[MENTION=150567]Old Red[/MENTION], did you have to run more wire to join the end of the sensor wire harness to the MPX Body ECU with the parts listed in your previous post? Also, just so others know, the MPX Body ECU on a 2015 SR5 Prem is located to the left of the steering wheel right behind the windshield defrost and inverter buttons on the "knee panel". At least I now know why the sensor doesn't work... I appreciate your help and suggestions!

Just wanted to post my results. NOT all SR5 PREMIUMS are fully wired to work out of box with a light sensor. Mine is a 2015 SR5 Premium, and this is no "5 minute mod" for me I'm afraid.

I tried your suggestion using TechStream v12 before tearing my lower dash apart to inspect further. Looks like my sensor isn't fully wired to MPX Body ECU despite the dummy sensor in-dash having a harness. Just posting to save somebody else the frustration. Thanks!

I found it easier to use a credit card and pry from the window side of the dummy cap. There seems to be a bit of a lip exposed enough to insert a credit card and lift up.

Any idea if these work on a ORP 2017? Seems like I’ve seen my headunit dim before but I can’t say for sure. When I looked up the part on another site it had 2016 as the last year it would fit.

Sorry for the delay, I have had the part a couple weeks but had left it uninstalled at my fishing camp. I installed this morning in my 2017 TRD Offroad Premium and the harness was there. All works as advertised. Auto dimming at night plus the ~3000 lumens I just put in for reverse lights should really help me a ton backing the rig up in the dark.

Tabs

Yeah. I was worried about that too. The clip-in tabs for the dummy plug are totally different than the light sensor tabs. It will require dash disassembly to remove a failed unit. Better test it with a flashlight before snapping it into place.

Is there a reason one couldn't just break or cut the tabs off the new sensor and set it back in the hole. I get it wouldn't be 100% secure but based on the pic I'm guessing it will vibrate a little but it seems like it would take a lot of bouncing to get it to pop out of the dash. Am I missing anything with this logic?

I just ran some electrical tape around the tab to keep it from getting locked in by the tab.

Thanks to the OP for posting about this. I ordered the cheapest sensor I could find and it took a couple of weeks to arrive. Works like a charm! I recently changed out all of my signal bulbs to LED with the fronts being switchbacks.

I now have three lighting options without having to worry about adjusting dash lights day/night.....

1. DRL only
2. Parking lights (my DRL is now disabled when parking lights are on through the use of a 5pin relay). I can leave the parking lights on all the time and rely on the switchbacks for DRL.
3. Headlights on.

Well shit, I received a defective light sensor and when I tried to remote it the top popped off with ZERO pressure and the plug has now fallen back down inside the dash. I have no idea how I'm goin to get it out short of removing the window or the dash. Removing the stereo just exposes the vents...

This sucks... my Baja designs fogs aren't working, they haven't since I installed the sensor. Fuses are still all good. don't know how this is related, but it must be.

Feel for you dude. I have a 2018 SR5 Premium. Just installed the new sensor. Doesn't work. Didn't think to try it before putting it in the hole. No way I'm going to try and dig it out now. With a smile on my face I'm going to try and enjoy my $10 piece of plastic upgrade.

Welp, I did get it out today, since the top popped off, I was able to fish the wires out of the dash using a bent coat hanger. I unplugged the blue factory harness and the light sensor base just fell down in the dash. I put the factory cap back on.

The fog light/running light issue was a blown fuse under the dash. I just installed a redarc trailer brake the same time I did the light sensor and must have popped it then. So it seems to be a compound problem.

Just wanted to say thanks. Didn't know what "Carista" was in your post and then found out. Amazing stuff. Glad I don't need to make a trip to the dealer and can do all the customization on my own.

I can confirm on my 18 SR5 Premium that it doesn't have the MPX Body ECU wired for it. Lazy me didn't check it before installing the new sensor. That being said, is there going to be an issue just leaving it wired up in the dash? It's going to be a ***** trying to dig it out without breaking and scratching.
