So if any one remembers my first post, i have a 92 4runner v6 5 speed and last week it got really cold here in montreal, and i went to start my car and it wouldnt start
i guess i drained the batery because when i went to try again, i got a clicking sound...
So i go now to boost the car wait 10 min and then try to start my car
i put my foot on the gas and also clutch to start and after a few turns my car backfires (really loud) and still my car wont start...
i need the car for tomorow morning and need ideas ASAP
THANKS

The clicking noise is the solenoid that is trying to push the starter gear to the flywheel. So it sounds like your starter is bad. Pull the starter out and connect it to your battery (make sure your battery is fully charged) directly with a pair of jumper cables. If the starter runs, it is fine. You can also take the starter to Kragen, Checkers, Autozone, Pep Boys, and they will bench test it for free.

The backfiring could have been from flooding the combustion chambers after cranking the motor so many times. So basically you flooded the motor.

If the engine is cranking, but not turning over, then you need to start troubleshooting the basics: fuel, spark, and air.

Good luck

One of your problems is putting your foot on the gas in a fuel injected vehicle.....don't touch the gas and let the FI system do it's own thing.

My money is on a dead battery.......

You have a 5speed why not give her a push and drop the clutch to get her started.

lol we were going to do that, we pushed it out, and the truck is too heavy to get it at around 20km/h... also im surrounded by speedbumps:|

The factory alternator finally died in my 93 4runner at 160K miles. Make sure you have it checked too before putting in a new battery only to find it dead again when you need it the most.
