My 95 spun three rods!

Gonna cost about 2800-3000 to get her running right again. Crankshaft work,heads,honed,rings,seals,valves etc. This sucks big time. Be a brand new motor almost after its finished! Price sound about right?

www.rockauto.com has re manufactured 3.0 v6 long blocks for $1,899.00 with 600$ core
shipping was 120$ for my zip code might be worth checking out.
the 22re is even cheaper then that

i know you can rebuild it cheap but the question is if he can do it. rebuilding a block is not as simple as it sounds and is very intimidating for someone who has never done one.
 
If you can find the right machine shop to do machine work and build up the long block its all pretty straight forward from their.
 
"toyotacarpart.com" has rebuilt 3.0 longblocks for $1500 with a 3-yr warranty--this is all they do, and they've been doing it for a while, with excellent service. I wouldn't pay someone $3000 to do ANYTHING to a 3.0!

This is the price from my mechanic,I have no means or tools,or time,to tackle a job like this. I was asking if the price was fair to rebuild it? Thanks
 
Seems a little high to me. You might ask about swapping in a used 3.0 from a junkyard. Far less labor involved.

I agree with this.

When the motor went in my truck, I bought a rusted out 95 runner for 600. Kept the motor, diffs, and a slew of spare parts. I parted out what was left of the runner, making almost 800 on it.

He was implying that you should buy the new motor and have it delivered to your mechanic to install, rather than rebuild.

Rebuild for $2800
New motor for $1500 + install (shipping not included)
 
Where do you live? My guy does the 3.0 rebuild for $1200 (including taking it out and putting it back in). Thats all he does. Sometimes you can find guys like this on CraigsList.

Thats a long block,still gotta switch everything over, If i buy, i have to handle warranty

Don't know whats wrong with that junk motor, This 4 runner of mine is the cleanest 95 on the road,ill post pictures when i get her back so u can see,don't wanna swap out a junk motor.
 
For me that does not sound too much off the mark for an engine done right(within spec, loads of new factory parts, etc..). Having rebuilt some engines, costs can run all over the map as can quality. It also depends on the level of rebuild the owner wants. So, the devil is really in the details on what is done. Sorry to hear, hopefully the rest of the process goes smoothly for you.

That's a smoking deal. Did i read that correctly that they only require a $75 core charge?

It's been a while since I looked into the specifics--I'm thinking I paid $300 for the core a few years back, but they may have changed it since then. All I know is they did me right, and I'd order from them again if I needed what they have (I've since moved in a different direction--LOL).

I have the 3.0 v6,does that matter?,wouldn't the heads need to be re worked? how about valve job and seals? I know you are trying to save me money and I appreciate that but I would think he would have given me the option for a short block already.
