My 98 4x4 limited build

today I installed ome 906 rear springs, sway a way 2.0 coilovers in front with new lower ball joints. the rear was a piece of cake! maybe 45 minutes total. the front on the other hand, was a nightmare!!! I have done probably 10 Toyota front ends, but NOTHING was going my way today! had to make 2 trips to autozone, couldn't get any joints apart for anything, couldn't get the top hats to line up with the shock mounts, all kinds of stuff. also when I busted the original LBJs apart, they looked brand new! oh well it's good piece of mind. I need to crank the coilovers down about an inch, it's got a little too much bro-lean for me (don't get me wrong, I don't mind a little haha), but I don't want to be staring at the sky when I load a bunch of camp gear in the back. anyway here's a preview! it's tall!!

Looking good! And yeah, I think I've done around 6 4Runner/Tacoma suspension installs and not one of them has been the same experience!
 
I know most of you love the limited flares but I just don't get it. I puke in my mouth a little everytime I look at them. So today I ripped them off, I'm going to cover the holes and line-x where the flares used to be. Any of you flare-lovers are welcome to them, I'm not paying shipping though. I think it already looks much better, even with the holes, those flares look like they were on clearance at pep boys to me. Here's a couple of teasers, more to come after line-x.

it rides awesome on the street. I had a front shock with blown seals and it still rode nice, they are being rebuilt now so I'll let you know more next week. the coilovers give a solid and surefooted feel but still feel plush over bumps and chop. it's a little stiffer than stock but I like it better. the ome rear springs are perfect, very comfy and handle a load pretty well. I highly recommend the setup.
 
no man I'm running some junky Rancho rear shocks the previous owner put on. I'll be putting either some sway a ways or bilsteins in a month or two. Here's a pic of the current setup, coilovers, Yokohama 33s and kmc enduros:

Are those the 2.0 SAW's? Did the OME 906's give you exactly 2" of lift? Looks like the perfect ride height for 265's. Oh BTW, I sent you a PM...
 
yeah SAW 2.0s. the 906s are probably right at 2" lift, but I never took a before-lift measurement. I like the ride height, but I'm running 285s now :)

by "grab bar" do you mean the bull bar in the first pic? if so yeah I still have it, shipping might be outrageous though, pm me if you're interested.
 
Do you happen to have a pic of the 906 springs with the inner bumpstop so I can see how far from the axle it is? For me it only takes a medium sized bump to get it to contact the axle (not that it's a harsh hit), and my thinking was that a taller spring will give it more travel before hitting the axle. Hopefully at the end of the suspension cycle before the shock bottoms out.

When you take a dip hard, does your Jounce bumpstop come into play at the end of the travel is I guess what I'm asking?
 
I'll get you a pic but it's not even close, there's a good 4"+ gap there when sitting level. I didn't feel the bumpstops the other night jumping the truck a foot off the ground at 40mph, and didn't feel the bumpstops on normal driving with 500lbs in the back of the truck.
 
Couple of updates. got my limited flares rolled in Herculiner. I wanted to pull them, and roll it on the body but I was afraid my lack of bodywork skills might show in a bad way. but they turned out good, I'm happy

Nice work on the flares. Every time I see a Limited with the blacked out flares and bumper I want to do it. Might have to make that a project soon.
