my attempt at a cost friendly solution

So I've been reading for some time about how the 3vze 3.0l heads blow out in
the same place the driver side rear Which is where mine failed. I just wanted
TO share my attempt at a cost friendly solution to 600 dollar headers. i just
purchased from Summit racing a 3 ft Themo Tec heat shield rated for up to
2000degrees its a heat shield that clamps on. Part # the11630 for the price of
47.00 Im hoping it helps to reflect the crossover pipe heat!!! Now I realize this is not going to give me performance increases i just want to cool down my engine when i get the wrap in the mail ill be sure and post some pics if anybody's interested. I HOPE I CAN COOL MY BABY DOWN !!!

Heat wrap is good stuff. Keeps the heat radiation off stuff that shouldn't be getting hot. Just soak that stuff for a while then at the end use a hose clamp to keep it from unraveling.

For a bit more, you could've bought headers, which would not only take the heat off the heads, but give you more power in the bargain. With the 3.0, I'd take more power anytime.

And if the wrap doesn't help, be sure to add the $1000+ for another head gasket repair, plus all the down time and aggravation. Just a thought.

I see where your coming from...just put headers and forget about it. But for some who are not interested ATM to put on headers this may be a good preventative approach to keeping down the heat in that particular area...

As for myself I will possibly try this as a temporary thing until the heat wins and my HGs give out. Then move on from there...

WHY NOT, h.g. is prob gonna fail eventually either way. what is the downside to using this on a stock manifold?? Have fun!

When and if my HG ever blows I will jump out of the car and celebrate! Any type of catastrophic engine failure means I get to swap in a new 3.4 or convert to a Vortec 4.3.

and if the wrap does help!!!! im not really in the market right now for 600 dollar headers i figured this was worth a shot and it def cant hurt anything. It was like my post said looking for a cost effective way to take away heat from the head i think this is it. if i have to change my head gasket again in the future and this dont work so be it. Ive gotten pretty good at changing them by now anyways !!! LOL!!! anyways im gonna take some temp reading before and after when i get the stuff and see if it helps at all!!!

Hey, I totally understand where you're coming from, OTTER. I know all about the pressures of a budget, and I actually agree with you for your situation--spend the little now and MAYBE avert a problem later. It's certainly worth a shot, friend.

I just figured id post this cause it might help somebody else out!!! i have a good digital thermometer and im going to test the areas before and after. I do appreciate everybody's comments. this is by far the best forum ive ever belonged to and i want to share all my ideas cause ive gotten so many good ideas and great help on here i try and return the favor!!!
