I didn't click the link but I am assuming it is your two trailers build? If so I followed that and they look great. Wish I had the access to build the stuff. Growing up I had access to a sheet metal shop and we had some cool stuff we made for our dirt bikes and even made some combination bikes(4 stroke motor in 2 stroke motocross frame) long before the manufacturers started making them. I am sure the bumper will turn out great and function the way you want.

Honestly, the OP has a fair point. To make a custom bumper per order with so many options is a LOT of shop time and Design Time that a working person can't really do very well...
But [MENTION=86948]mikebontoft[/MENTION] has an interesting idea, designing a template file for a laser/hydro cutter and shipping the components as a "Custom DIY" Bumper may be a valid option for some members. The OP would have to incorporate a detailed assembly procedure and liability waiver to disolve himself of any liability as the "kit" would have to be assembled and welded by a 3rd party (preferably a professional welder, but you get the idea) and such a product would be a little easier to ship and manufactuer versus a full bumper. But in the end you're talking about a niche market.
I also thought about doing this since I have access to a Hydro-Cutter for a fairly affordable cost and just need to brush up on my 3D CAD and Cutting Software skills... but alas its shelved along with a handful of other ideas as of late.

well, I was thinking just send him a 2D drawing on a used napkin and have him cut the parts for me, but that works too.

Don't forget to smudge the specifications and sizes with grease blobs so the engineer looks at it for 3 hours tryingto figure out what the hell you want. I find French Fry grease to be good, but good ol' Bacon grease works best. :becky:

The bad part about the kit would be that your pretty much stuck with my design, the good thing is you could cut it and modify it your self. You could cut and shape the outer lower part how you want it to look. Most manufactures look similar but shape the lower half differently. You could mount it the way you like.
Most people have access or know someone with a welder, grinder and cut off wheel. That is really all you would need to finish it. Maybe just sell one with no holes in it at all, then you could build in a winch mount and cut your own holes where ever you want. Pick your own lights and cut them in.
The other things that concern me is my 4runner is an 04. So I don't think it will fit the newer ones (06+). How many could I sell? How do I ship them, any cheap ideas. Like I said before, I'm still trying to decide if this is a good idea.

Flat pattern for the bumper was cut today. Now to dimple and bend it. I also added holes for the recovery mounts to poke through.

So I got the bumper bent and the holes in the skid plate dimpled. So far so good.

So today I got a lot done on the internal structure, tomorrow I will get the lower plate work going. Hopefully it will go together good.
