2008 Limited V8, owned since new...
104,000km (64000 ish miles)
Totalled heading to work. A woman in the oncoming lane fell asleep at the wheel. She was charged at the scene and taken away in an ambulance with lower body injuries.
I just barely avoided a head-on collision with her by getting to the right as much as I could before impact. As you can see she still got me solid on the back drivers side quarter. She hit me at approximately 90 km/h. She appeared to be accelerating while she was asleep. 4Runner did a 180, and I started sliding backwards into a ditch area. For a second there I thought for sure I was going to roll but the truck stayed planted. Side airbags deployed. The Runner took the hit and did its job for me...No doubt...I landed between a bus stop and a concrete light pole.
First and foremost, obviously I'm glad she is alright but not gonna lie...Was pretty sick to my stomach looking at my truck afterwards...lol
What a waste of a truck. As we all do on here, I loved that truck. Had plans to run her for a long ass time. Rust proofed it every year, maintenance fully performed at all the recommended intervals, etc.
Had there not been a bus stop full of people to my right I probably would have been able to clear her...maybe...will never know...Only problem is, if I had not been there for her to hit I think she would have killed everyone in the bus stop. I'll take the former scenario thank you very much...
A wild experience for sure. Feeling a little extra bit of gratitude these days :thumb:
Just glad my kids weren't in the truck at the time. Would have been pretty scary for them for sure.
Test drove a number of other vehicles for replacement purposes and ultimately ended up coming back home to the 4Runner. Picking up a new 2018 7 Passenger Limited next week some time.
I hadn't been in a 5th gen before now. Drivetrain is certainly not the same, but I still liked it. In every other way, except for maybe some of the interior bits/materials, I would say this 5th gen is a step ahead. Definitely felt right at home in it. I really like the increased height and size.
I had just put new rubber on it a week before the crash....LOL
