My backwards build plan

Irishcav17 nice! My buddy has been eyeing a rooftop tent for his FJ. How are the sliders as steps and does dirt gather on them a lot like my stock side steps? My gf is only 5'3" and I think she'll need them especially since I'm raising the front up a little bit more this week.

They work great as steps. I'm 5'3" as well and I like them a lot. Little higher than Nerf bars but great to be able to get to the rack. Only had them on about 2 weeks so can't say too much about dirt piling up yet. They seem to be at enough of an angle that that won't happen.
I don't have the lift yet so time will tell with that haha.

Just updating my plans for this build.

I blacked out my rear emblems and my rear bumper valance today. Plastidip on the emblems, and vinyl wrap on the bumper. First time trying vinyl wrap. Watching videos on this, they all make it look so easy. It's not that easy. I mean, it's not rocket science, but it requires a ton of patience and finesse. There's quite a bit of flaws, luckily they are all on the underside and not very visible.

I was going to vinyl wrap the front bumper valance too, but after going through the rear, I think I will just plastdip the front and take the easy way out haha.

Up next is ordering some sliders. I was going to go shrockworks, but I've heard they take a very long time. I'm now considering budbuilt sliders with the bump out and full tread. But man are they pricey!

Love what you did to the chrome. I have been inching to plastidip mine. How was doing the chrome emblem on the back? Does that big piece come off or did you just tape around it to spray? How many coats and about how long did it take you?

Irishcav17 thanks for your input. Looks like I'll order mine tomorrow. I'm a little jealous of your black 4runner. I've always been a black on black kinda guy.

Plastidip was super easy. Just mask off with an inch or so all the way around. This way when it dries, you can just peel off the excess. I did something like 8 coats with 10-15 minutes inbetween each coat so it takes awhile, but it's not hard to do at all. Just make sure you clean the nozzle after each coat otherwise it clumps up and will splatter on the following coat.

When you peel off the excess did you have to cut around it with a razor or something? Thanks for the help! Waiting for nice day to tackle it. Did you use more than one can?

Irishcav17 the shop that installed it got it for me for $1300 which is a little less than direct.

Posting an update due to request. I've done Some mods in the last 8 months.

Toytec 3" boss lift
17x8.5 0 offset wheels on 285/70/17 ko2 rubber
1" bora hub and wheel centric spacers
Bushwhacker fender flares
Trd pro grill with 26" light bar
Husky floor liners

Looking to add a roof rack and wider tires soon.

First 2 pics are before wheel spacers. Last 3 are after 1" wheel spacers. Sorry, I need to take some new/better pics of my rig.

Thanks. I still want a wider looking stance. I may swap out to 285/70/17 ridge grapplers but I think I may need a body mount chop if I do.

I've been considering the same idea with the tires. I was bummed to learn the 285/70 KO2s are really more like a 32. They look kinda small to me too.

BMC chop shouldnt be too bad. I ordered plates from relentless just in case I need them. Got bora 1" spacers coming myself, no bushwhackers though so hopefully looks "filled up"

Great build, keep it going!

Looks awesome, I was looking at the fender flares as well. How was the install on those?

Yeah I measured the ko2's. They are closer to 32" than 33" and only 10.5" width. But they perform really well so far.

Your stance should look good without the flares. With the flares, I feel like I need more width.

The install was easy. Did it myself. Just need to drill a few plastic pieces. Just take your time to measure and check fit twice before you drill.

Thanks everyone. Any votes on if I should go full length front runner rack and drill or go the slighter longer than 3/4 rack so I don't have to drill. Kind of torn.....

Go with the slightly longer then 3/4 rack 1st. If you feel you really need the extra space you can always reconfigure the rack by buying the extension pieces to the full length at a later date (the full length is essentially the 3/4 with an add-on extension and new foot bracket). That way you don't regret drilling if you didn't need it, but if you really need the space you'll at least know it, and it will make the drilling easier to swallow.

Just my .02!

I couldn't be happier regular length Frontrunner 3/4!
