My gas pedal got stuck!

The power brake booster will run with the egnition full off with the key off and removed and yes it runs in the ACC position as well. As far as the steering thing, if the car is rolling if steers no different the the older cars that did not have powerstering. My very first car with power steering was a 1983 Pontiac, before that all the cars I had driven were manual steering and non power brakes. I took my driving test in 1968 in a 1967 Volvo 244 with 4 on the floor No power stering and manual 4 wheel disk brakes and I passed on the first try.

The reason I like this type of discussion/thread so much is we all remember the Lexus that killed 4 while the passenger talked to 911. To me all of this is like flying (and life for that matter). If you train, postulate and practice your 'emergency procedures' the real-thing quickly becomes nothing more than "slightly abnormal non-events" rather than emergencies:bigok:

Know your equipment, it's strengths, weaknesses and think about what to do when something goes wrong. It's not rocket science...

Many are also quick to forget that the Lexus in question had the incorrect floor mats in the vehicle. They were not Lexus mats and there is some question whether they were designed for that vehicle at all. Some preliminary reports were that they may have been Toyota mats (ie, for a Camry, etc). Of course, Toyota was still blamed for the accident by our wonderful government (and ironically so shortly after bailing out GM). Quite interesting that Toyota settled with the family on the product liabilty side, but left the Lexus dealer out to dry as they should have with the negligence suit.

If I give you the keys to my vehicle and neglect to tell you I put the wrong brake pads on it and you get into an accident, I am the negligent party, not the maker of the vehicle.

Because if you screw up and turn it two clicks you lock the steering. Then things get really exciting.

Yup - it better to go N ftw. I did not want to even chance locking the steering
at 70mph on the highway.

I know we are sick of hearing this. I was getting on on ramp of interstate today and decided to put it to the floor because it just feels good to do sometimes.
As I hit about 70mph and was quickly approaching car ahead of me, I let off the pedal to find the truck was still wide open. I held the brakes, stomped the pedal again to see if it would unstick, then simply slid the shifter to N and safely pulled over to the side of the highway with the engine screaming and the brakes smelling like money. After I stopped, shut the engine down (rev limiter works great!) and changed my underwear, I realized the bottom of the pedal was caught underneath my aftermarket winter floor mats.
So, To warn everyone, make sure your floor mats are secured down and wont slide forward! Also, Wide open throttle and full brakes will not stop the engine like Toyota says it should:happens:.

I had the same thing happen with my weathertecs but luckily the pedal slipped back out/liner slipped back toward the driver seat.

What a story!

Imagine that... Somebody "makes a mistake" (not noting the floormat), has a near death experience, doesn't panic, behaves in a smart, responsible way and then chooses to share the story so others can learn from it. All of that without attempting to sue Toyota or the mat maker!:trophy:

My weathertec didn't come with a hook to hold it down, is that something I need to get from toyota or weathertec? Has anyone bought the hooks by themselves?

I use the hook that came with my factory mats. It was a very tight fit into the Weathertec, I had to open the hole up a bit. IIRC I just put a screwdriver in there and turned it a bit. It works great now.

This can happen on any car. There actually is a recall on my Cobra; the rug can make the gas pedal stick.

It sounds like you (OP) aren't blaming Toyota or looking to take this up with them, which is good.

Also, as CJ3 said, I use the hooks in the 4R with my Weathertec liners; fits really well, sometimes it can hard to take the liner out!

The key will not go that far if the tranny is in gear. Try it sometime.

Yup, I would not blame anyone but myself for not ensuring the mats that I put in would not slide around and become a problem. I think we all need to think old school and take responsibility for our own actions, not try to blame someone else for 'causing' a mistake. From the **** that sued Mcdonalds for having hot coffee to the ******* that sues kroger for slipping on ice that is in the parking lot in the winter time. We need to let Darwinism do its job and realize its our fault for not f*cking thinking sometimes.
