i think i may have messed up and got the wrong O2 even after i double/triple checked the #'s

after speaking with a guy at the local dealer, that i always deal with, i decided to give them an nice review on google:

Reviews (and this was given 1 star)
I couldnt believe my ears, "Sir, could I confirm the part number with you?" - "No, we only give out prices over the phone." -"What? so you cannot confirm the part number unless I drive to the dealer?" -"Are you a company or a person?" -"I'm a person" -"I'm sorry, we dont give out part numbers unless you are a business" -"Thanks, I'll do busines with someone that wants it!" HANG UP. This is ludicrous. As a current (and very very happy Toyota Product Owner), I was disturbed by the unwillingness to help in this situation. All I wanted was a confirmation that i had purchased the correct O2 sensor for my vehicle. Instead, I was told to F OFF. Way to go Toyota of North Charleston. I guess Toyota of North Charleston only cares about new car buying customers and has parts people that lack enthusiasm for their brand name.

That is pretty stupid. I have talked to several dealerships here that have told me part numbers, and confirmed part numbers for me. In fact, when I was ordering parts from them, they were happy when I had the part numbers, because it made it easier for them, and they confirmed that their system said the PN I provided was the correct one.

That's pretty poor customer service, and I can only think that they are trying to force people to blindly follow what they say without questioning. I wouldn't go there anymore.

I'd let the owner know you were going to complain to the local Toyota District office. They get dinged big time by Toyota for customer sat issues. You might even get something out of it for the aggravation.

i guess i could try to get something for free out of them. but thats not my style. i'd just like people to do their freaking job. is it my fault i have an especially rare vehicle? NO. who should i call when i have problems? TOYOTA. im confused.
and as far as that dude goes at the parts desk....someone needs to teach him a lesson on not being a ****ing douche to the people that pay his wages.

ill give yall my VIN to see if you wanna help me at all as well as the part #'s i bought from DENSO

2000 - JT3HN86R5Y0259737

A/F upstream 234-4153 $65.34
A/F dnstream 234-9003 $128.51

before i hung up the phone i told him, "Thanks for letting me know that the other dealership in town would like help me more than yall" then I gave him a nice LOUD office handset hangup. the kind where you know someone's pissed.

You have those switched, 4153 is downstream, 9003 is the upstream.

That said, I think you have the wrong upstream, I think you need 9002. Go here:
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/69744-tutorial-documentation-reference.html

and click this link:
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/81424-denso-o2-sensor.html#post699825

and there is a link there to the URD O2 sensor guide. That should tell you the correct sensors you need.

thanks nelson, heres what I just pulled on the Denso aftermarket site though (IM SO CONFUSED - not really just stressing)

Engine: V6 (3.4L)
ID: 5VZFE
234-9003

(Air Fuel Ratio Sensor)
4WD; Calif.; Manual Trans; Calif.; DENSO is the O.E. Manufacturer / Air Fuel Ratio Sensor

keep in mind, i have the 5speed. so i think im right on the #'s if you could reassure Nelson that would b awesome. http://www.densoaftermarket.com/catalog/catalog.php?part=inje

im gonna reset the computer aft work, put the rear one in, and hopefully my gas mielage wont suck as bad as it did on my trip this last weekend. (i was my first trip after putting the 285's on and i still have stock 4.10's) so that may be it. but when i stomp the gas, it doesnt move like it did before i put the new A/F (upstream) in.

Ok, yeah, I didn't look up your VIN, just assumed you had auto since it is way more common. Looks like you have the right numbers to me.

thanks nelson,

BTW, ill be going up to NJ with a friend early next year if you wanna meet up. not sure what kind of extracurricular stuff you're in to, but i do it all. fish, sail, wheel, mountain bikes, surf, you name it, i prob do it. its always good to put a face to the words on these forums.

Thanks again for the double check.

As cordrayj1 knows all too well now, Charleston SC has its perks as a living environment. But buying a car is worse than getting a root canal without novocaine in that city unless you know the buyer quite well.

Cordrayj1, you must have been going to pay through the nose for those sensors. Both dealers in Chas I think have a 20% markup at least on all parts ordered OTC. I went to West Ashley Toy in 08 for a PCV valve. $19. Uh, no thanks. Use an online dealer from now on and save the $$$ for fishing.

I know that Toyota of North Chuck charges about $1300+ to fix the leaking inner axle. Drive to Columbia, and it is almost half that price. The price to live in paradise as they say.

Little Caesar,
i know what you mean. you def pay to be in paradise. i do live about 1/2 mile from the nearest boat landing that i use almost every other day......but
i was actually just calling him to see if they had the nuts in for the o2's because mine werent nuts anymore, they were "O2 holders" as i would call them. they were barely tight too.

yep. people around here feel an automatic entitlement for some reason. not sure what it is, but it seems quite common.

OP, what's wrong about the one you have? Is it the plug? If so than I can almost guarantee you the you have a 49 states 02 sensor for a CA emissions vehicle or vice versa. My '99 was a PA vehicle it's whole life. I ordered an 02 sensor, wrong plug. Turned out my truck had CA emissions and needed a different sensor. I never thought to check. It was a rare instances where ordering by VIN instead of P/N would've been beneficial.

You need to check out rockauto.com. I have a buddy who uses them all the time and the prices are usually way less than dealers and autozone. If you can wait a week and know what all you need its the way to go. You pay for shipping but usually is offset by your local tax and price differences.

A/F upstream 234-4153 $65.34
ROCK AUTO PRICE:$55.79

A/F dnstream 234-9003 $128.51
ROCK AUTO PRICE: $108.99

$193.85-($164.78 + $8.11 SHIPPING TO 90210/CA) = $20.96 SAVINGS

Correct me if I'm wrong but looking at your VIN you have 4WD. Soooo.....

2000 4WD manual, correct? California or 49 state? I'm going with 49 since you are in SC but of course that's no guarantee.

1999 & 2000 49 State manual V6 4WD; Front: 234-4161
1999 & 2000 49 State manual V6 2WD & 4WD; Rear: 234-4154

99% sure its cali. thats what the dealer has told me every time ive gotten stuff from them.

yep. thats a gold mine.

i actually got them from there along with a new clutch master and slave. its amazing what just putting a new slave on did for the smoothness of shifting.

aside from thinking its a cali spec from my mechanic, i discovered a while back that when it was first purchased, it came from a dealer in California. wouldn't that make it for sure a cali spec?

I wouldn't bet on it. Just look underneath and see if you have 2 CAT's, or just one.
