my rear axle blew a seal!!!

Hey guys , So glad I found this thread. I have had a leak on th einside of my back drivers side tire, and I thought it was brake fluid but the fluid never went down. now I realize it is the differential fluid.
It has been like that for ABOUT A YEAR now i would say and has been to SC and back ,(I live in FL)

is it something real bad? other than hurt my MPG (its pretty bad) will the axle fall off?? lock up?

I tried to remove the plug to put in more fluid but cant get it off.

repair shop said about $250.

is it worth messing with?

Wow, if there isnt any fluid in the rear diff you bet your arse its worth doing. The hell. Why cant you get the top plug out? try PB blaster?

I tried silicon spray and major leverage. started to strip with 12 sided socket. so I need a 6 sided socket.

The leak never went all way down to concrete , just down tire a bit, so maybe theres still some in it??

It needs to be fixed in my opinion.The axle seal is bad,If you can't get fluid added to rear end you will be in trouble,you must add fluid before it runs dry,or it will be a lot more than $250 to get it fixed.Good luck

Red Brake Warning Light Stays On

I just did the inner seal on the Limited. After Putting everything together, bleeding the brakes, etc. The Red Brake Warning Light just stays on. Question is, did I not bleed the brakes properly (with two people,pump the brakes hold, then release the bleed nut, tighten back and do same procedure
again until fluid has no bubbles. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks The Spudman

I just had the dealership replace my rear axel seal, brakes all around and some other unrelated work. I drove home and then out later the night and the Christmas tree of lights came on. (Emergency Brake, VSC TRAC, VCS, ABS and the traction icon)

The truck drives perfect so I will just have to wait until the dealership opens in the morning.
