My space ship....

What are you using for rock lights and where did you mount them?

For those wondering about the rock lights, I was going to wait until my build thread but here is what I used.

I bought two 6 foot sections of this and applied it to the underside sheet metal, right along the large seam that runs along the length of the truck. I had them a long section along the inside of the hood as an engine compartment light for quite a while so I knew they would be fine as rock lights. They are insanely bright, use hardly any current, practically indestructible, and use awesome 3M adhesive tape which is pretty much permanent after you wipe the surface with acetone or alcohol. Here are the pics of the strip I installed on the hood. This was the very first mod I did to the truck about a week after I got it. I couldn't figure out why the hell they didn't put a light in the engine compartment. Turned out to be really useful, one of my favorite mods. :nerd:

Awesome. Do you have issues with them getting caked in dirt? I thought about doing the very same thing but was worried about them getting covered in dirt and road debris during the winter...

I agree with everyone in that it they be some nice photos. I like the idea of using the LED strip for the rock lights might have to steal that one for my own truck. How did you wire everything up and what type of switch did you use?

I've honestly never even done so much as wipe em off and I've had the truck up to the rockers in mud a few times.

They are wired to a panel of Contura switches on the dash to the left of the steering wheel. I'll grab a pic at lunch.

Build thread?

Suspension is all finished and I got a chance to get it dialed in off road this weekend. Im putting together a big ass build thread with a bunch of good stuff that I should have up by this weekend hopefully if work can give me a break...

Any progress on the build thread, by chance, SOcalTRAIL? Some of the pics you've posted hint at some mods that I may need to steal--- I mean use for inspiration--- for my own 2K11 Mag Grey Trail

I have all of the pics compiled... there are ALOT.... :jump:

I'm stuck prepping for a quality control audit this week, then have the audit next week so as soon as this passes like a sideways ****, I am all over it. I got really when I started looking through all my pics, I forgot a bunch of the stuff I did early on.

Bumpin this back up... how in the world did you fit 6 foot light strips under your car? I was just under looking and don't see how...

Ditto.
I've got tons of those led strips around and have been trying to figure out exactly where to put them under there myself.

I don't have anywhere near 6' of contiguous frame available on either side of my 2011 TE with KDSS, unless I'm missing some magic trick, that is.

SoCalTrail-- -any pictures showing exactly where you managed to mount those would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Yea i've got the 6 foot strips and got under there yesterday and was just like hold up...

I was under the truck trying to figure this out again today. It seems if you add a few slight bends in the strips, it's possible, but very close. I have yet to actually stick them up there, I am just using duck tape for now to see how they will fit.

I had the back of the strip all the way to where the lower rear trailing arm connects, and the fronts end almost all the way up where the frame meets the engine compartment by the front wheel well.
