I just though I should show the "stealth box" I made for my JL10w3. The JL box is so expensive. This box sounds great. It is out of the way. Plus, it still has a JL10w3 in it. It is around 1.1cu ft. ported at 30 hz. It sounds great ported. Plus, I just put the small Alpine PDX5 digital amp behind it; so, super stealth and out of the way.

I built it in around the tire well to save space. Also, the jl sub is one of the only subs that has a cover available for it. The subwoofer cover is very strong, gives the sub enough room to play, and provides excellent protection against puncture.

Yeah, I could help out on designing a box no problem. The thing I forgot to point out about my box design is- It won't work with the shelf system. I took out the shelf. I really never used it anyways. I am sure a box could be built and still keep it, but it is much easier if you decide you don't need the shelf system in your 4runner anymore.

not too bad, if u want to be able to take out the sub box, i suggest u to install the amp under driver or passenger seat, or make a mount in factory storage and hie the amp there, i know on my 07, i hide jl 300/2 under both seats and the jl 500/1 in the storage, but u eill need to gut out that plastic and make a mdf rack for it.

Sure, I will get more pics. I made it only with straight sides for ease. No fiberglass back or anything. Nor a fiberglass front. I mean, I can do that but, It is just 3/4inch MDF. So, no; I did not use the little cubbie hole. The amp is mounted in the storage area behind it. I am sure your three JL amps sound better. I used to have the exact same three.(funny). If you would like a design just let me know. I could help out. There are many ways to make one: fancy, sturdy, out of the way, whatever you want. Let me know what your concerns are and I will give you my two cents if you do need help.

couple more pics.
I put the shelf back in just to level the floor while the seats are down; but, it doesnt go up with this design. I dont really use the storage underneath but I can now with the one plus inch I have to get to it now. I mounted an ac plug bar on the sub box which is what you see in some of the pics...(hope it wont rattle) Also, relocated a cigarette lighter plug so I can still get to it...(which I actually powered directly off my second battery, constant 12v, 12 guage, 30amp fuse) Obviously dont use the storage behind it except for the amp. I didn't mold the box too tight to the wall so air will still pass around the amp easily. The nicest box may have a fiberglass front and back molded to the wall with bondo, then carpeted. But, I like the ease of making the wooden box and I dont miss the shelf. Pretty much the only thing you can't see is the length of the port. It is 3inch by 18.5inch. Use a shorter one if you want it ported higher. This is ported somewhere around 30hz. You can also use a rectangular slot port if you want to build it that way. The port facing into the corner of the truck I believe makes it very good with the window up.
The JL grill is the best.

Update-- I have upgraded my so called stealth box a couple times. First was the 10W3, then the 10W6, and now the 13W6. Each box has been bigger and better. Each box was nice though. I like to build them around the tire well to save room for hauling things. Plus I have a mattress that still fits in the truck.

I want I want I want! haha, looks great and definitely plenty of room to still haul stuff. I've got the double decker as well but never use it, but don't feel like ripping it out just yet. Also like the tie down with bungee cord to the floor.

Sorry for the delay, here are the dimensions of the box, for the double decker it is 5" deep. (IIRC for the non-DD , there is 7" available between the outside edge of the wheel well and inside wall of the carge area)

I started by cutting 1/2" MDF into 3-1/2" strips to form the perimeter of the box, then cut both faces to match the frame. Glued it, screwed it, then cut the hole for the sub. After a trip to Hancock Fabrics for the vinyl and poor man's polyfill (pillow stuffing) I stuffed it, wrapped it and screwed in the sub. All in all it was complete over a weekend and 2 six packs!

Please give the dimensions you used on this! Btw, is that a 10" sub you have? I'm about to replace my 12" Kenwood with a 12" JL 12W3v3-4.

I was looking at those Stealth Box's too, but way too expensive. So for a few buck, mainly in fiberglass I built this. Cause the rest of the supplies were just lying around.

Sounds great, a little rattling from a couple broken clips I need to replace, but works out.
