My time with the 5th gen didnt last too long. :(

Well, sadly, I didnt get too much time with my 5th gen, which I had began to really like. I didnt do any wheeling in the truck, just a daily, but I sure did enjoy it while it lasted. I just bought this truck in Feb and was said to see it totaled.

Two weeks ago on Thursday, on my way home from work, I was doing about 65 heading north, when a kid blew a stop sign and tboned the left rear of the truck. It was like a bomb going off. I had no idea he was there. It skidded my 4runner off into a large ditch in which it then rolled 3-4 times before landing on its roof.

Ill never forget the sound of that thing rolling like that. Thank god, that I walked away with some bruising and some therapy on my neck so far, nothing real serious.

To make things even better, this kid had no insurance, so its been all through my insurance for now. Everything has been paid for already and I am on the hunt for a new vehicle.

I think I am gonna opt for a tundra this time around though. I need something to two around my car.

Holy shit man, glad you made it out of that more or less ok. If I saw those pictures and you told me the victim walked away with only neck paid I would be shocked. It good to see more examples of how these are quite safe vehicles. Huge bummer about your rig though. I can't stand people like that who knowingly break the law by driving without insurance and on top of that disregard traffic laws. At least that kid shouldn't be driving for a loooonnng time. Best of luck recovering and fining a new vehicle.

I actually am an estimator at a body shop. I got to see the estimate that was wrote on the truck as it was at my shop. The estimate was almost $74k in repairs lol.

Glad you're OK! And you have a positive outlook. It must have been an airbag convention in there.

I was just about to say. I showed this to a friend of mine and their first comment was "Aren't you glad you traded in your car for a 4Runner?"

Yea, this thing definitely held up well! Ive never had an airbag go off on me till this happened. I dont remember the airbag in the wheel going off, but I do remember the side curtains going off. All those puppies saved my ass for sure. The point of impact was actually not that bad, he just hit the left rear, but it was at a point that sent me spinning and into the ditch which ate the truck up.

Wow! Glad you're okay. My friend rolled my old 3rd gen 97 4runner off an interstate doing around 70 mph and he walked away without a scratch too. These things are tanks!
