Side airbags are the main reason I chose the 4runner over a Wrangler, and now my choice is very well justified.

BTW, I'm always amazed americans have this problem with uninsured motorists... that shit doesn't happen up in Canada very often.

Physically I am fine. Just some soreness in my neck still and some headaches every once in awhile. Im hoping the physical therapy solves these issues as I would like it all to be over with lol.

I got rear ended yesterday (just a small bump, they essentially ran into the 4runner's hitch) and I couldn't believe how sore my neck was. Some minor headaches too. First time in a collision of any kind. Made me wonder how you were faring. I hope your recovery goes well!

Interesting, I read about how having a hitch takes away all your rear-end impact absorption. Didn't really think much of it since I've taken too pretty good smacks in different vehicles directly on the hitch (with me stopped) without any soreness, good to know.

I'm impressed too. But, may have just been lucky. OP, glad you're OK. I had a 2012 Tundra that I sold last year. I really liked that truck. If you're going to do any towing, I'd get the 5.7 engine. I had the 4.6 and it towed just OK. Gas mileage is not great on either engine. I got high 16 to low 17 most of the time but I drive fast.

I definitely think the force is transferred more directly to the occupants when only the hitch is hit...hitch connects to the frame, frame to body, seats to body, occupants to seats.

In a larger impact perhaps the other car's crumple zones would soak up the impact, but in a smaller one I think you feel some more of the brunt of it.

Almost 3 weeks later and i am still doing pretty good.

I am scheduled to check out a 2014 tundra crew max this Sat. I am concerned a little about fuel economy lol. I drive 25mile on way to work, it is mostly country though.

Although my wifes grandpa threw something in the mix now. lol he has a 2014 GMC Sierra, fully loaded, crew cab,4wd, the works. Its got 18k of grandpa miles on it. He said he would sell it to me for 31k. The truck books for 40k now. Ive always loved my Toyotas, but this one is tempting as I have driven it for a week and it really is a nice truck!

My brother has a 14 Sierra Denali with the 6L V8, it's pretty sweet. And he gets ~21 MPG with it on the highway.

I'd take the Sierra over the Tundra every day. It's a much, much nicer truck than the Tundra in all honesty

Im hoping so lol. At the time of the accident, he had a current insurance card, but his agent said it was cancelled may 1st. So he will be getting ticketed for that too once it all works its way through the system lol.
