Mystery Noise

Hi,

After 17000 Mile of ownership my 2011 has developed a ticking noise that is driving me nuts. It is not very loud, but you can definitely hear it once the engine runs over 3100 or so rpm. Now, I do know what the injector noise and engine noise is, all that noise is regular and it does not sound like this "new noise".

I am clueless as to where it is coming from, it sounds like it is behind the instrument cluster, however, when in Park and you depress the accelerator pedal it almost sounds as if it is coming from the pedal assembly itself.

Does anyone else have this noise? Surely it cannot be a regular sound....

Um.. it may be the typical sound that many Toy engines make.

all of toyotas i've dealt with previously had a ticking noise. during acceleration, it speeds up a bit, at idle, it is a steady ticking.

it is generating around the vacuum lines,( VSV [vacuum valve] is the cause, IIRC..). I had a Scion tC that was torn down by toyota for a similar issue, only to get a confirmation of the VSV suspect.

Though, most of my experiences were with a 4 cyl engines
