N-fab nerf steps.....

So I came across these great looking nerf steps from www.N-FAB.com & noticed that they are on an SR5 2010 4Runner. Unfortunately I called them to verify fitment because it says that they are only for the trail edition! WTF I ask the guy "They are on an SR5 model but why does it say for trail edition only?" Guy answers "How do you know its an SR5 in the picture?" FML! Are you serious? The Trail has different bumpers, no rocker panel, different wheels, etc..... The rude guy then says hold on while I ask & then tells me they were a one off piece for a customer!:bash: Lets get these guys to offer them for the SR5 model since they have done it before!

I'm looking at getting a set of N-fabs as well for my TE. Anyone owners start seeing rust form on the steps? I know they are powder coated and should be pretty tough but I think with use it will eventually wear through. Thanks.

I was curious if you could take a few photos of how they mount to the frame? I know they are only for the TE but I wonder if I could have someone just fabricate a couple extension brackets to clear the rocker panel on the SR5. I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

That's just it! They don't attach to the frame . They attach with the 6 bolts that attach the rocker panels to the body.

That's why they are to only be used as steps, not rock rails, as they will twist and could do more damage to the body when offroading because they will be your low point. A few FJ owners have found out the hard way.

Interesting! Even the cheap after market nerf steps mount to the frame, and those are no way meant to be used as sliders either. Oh well, I see how it is, just take my dream and shoot it down

You just have to think outside the box for dreams to become reality!
Go custom....Give Glen a call,or e-mail him at Rocky Road and have them made with a step,or maybe stick out a little farther or any way you want them. He already has the frame measurements on the SR5's so it would probably be easy to weld a step on at each door. If he want do it ,knock on someone elses door until you get what you want!

Going custom....I've been in touch with Sergio at Bajarack for the last month or so to make me a full flat utility rack for the 5th's. Like these he just came up with for the FJ's, only I want ~40-44" of mesh behind the moonroof to stand on for photography and stuff.... As with some N-fab stuff, you would more than likely have to do some mods to get them to fit even the TE. I'm sure it wouldn't be that much harder to make them work for the SR5.

That being said, harper7 has the better idea. Have some hoops welded onto some real sliders that will actually stand up to the trails.

If you do decide to go the N-fab route, be sure to use some loc-tite on all the bolts. If the bolts get loose they will more than likely damage the OEM nut inserts in the body.

Is there a good RR that can be used as step without going custom? I need the step to get to roof. I might give Demello a call to see if they made any progress, but would hate to have a set 'custom' built - this would cost twice as much..

I have Demello sliders on mine and use them as a step to put things on the roof often.

Talk to Glenn @ Rocky Road. Just have him 'bump out' the 'super slider' tube a few inches for you. I doubt it would add much, if anything, to the overall cost. Information is free, shoot them and e-mail to see.

I spoke with someone at Rocky Road yesterday and they weren't helpful to say the least. I asked if they could do anything custom like adding a step or bumping the bar out a little and they said no, they are all a standard assembly and no modifications could be done.

Yeah give him a call. I know they have them for the sr5/limited not sure about the trail yet. His sliders use 4 mount points unlike a some of the others that use 2 or 3 mount points. Also the textured black finish gives you a bit more grip when standing on them.
