N-Fab Roof Rack

I too was concerned about it falling apart. Loc-Tite is what I used.


Putting it together was the most time consuming. I felt this design and construction was inspired by IKEA.

I got mine (the T-Force version) 2nd hand but unused last year. After 35,000 miles with it up there, here are my observations:

First the good:
  • Good build quality
  • Aluminum = Light
  • Looks good
  • Easy to install
  • Fits a roof top bag very well.

...and then:
  • Aluminum = not very sturdy and stuff bounces as weight is added
  • Not long enough. The rear light holes are too far forward to be useful when camping or reversing.
  • Extremely low weight limit. (again aluminum)
  • Non-adjustable fairing
  • Limited mounting points due to "cool" design sides.
  • Extremely limited interior space due to the same design in the front and rear.

Honestly, it is a great looking rack for light loads, but the more I draw upon it the more it disappoints. I will be getting a different rack once the budget affords the ability. For now, it works okay enough.

PM me an offer. It is in great shape with no holes drilled in it. Right now I am focusing my money on the kayak trailer. I may end up putting a basket on that to save me to trouble of top loading the 4R.
 
I took mine off last night. Once I take all the lights and FuelPax mounts off of it, I will be posting it up for sale (with the rail brackets included).

I was afraid of that too. But I've had mine for a year and a half. I live in the northeast and drove through a pretty bad winter with a lot of snow and two huge blizzards. They put tons of salt on the roads here in the winter.

I'm also in my second summer of driving out on the sand trails at the beaches. They've been covered with fine powdery beach sand and salt.

So far I think I've had two small spots around the welds where I could see rust starting to form. 5 minutes with some steel wool and some rustoleum took care of the issue.

Wash them down and stay on top of any rust spots and you won't have any problems.

For a roof basket, the nfabs look good enough that I almost bought it, but decided to spend a little more for a prinsu.

Keep in mind if you do with prinsu, prepare to wait....lol

What does the Prinsu run? Does anyone have any photos handy?

I am waiting on an ecotechne one from a group buy that doesn't require any drilling and is a more friendly for Sunroofs than the 7/8 prinsu. However, I did search high and low for a no drill option and almost ordered the NFAB before deciding i'd rather spend a little more and get a little more.

There are lots of options for racks that don't require drilling if you search the forum.
 
Looking at getting one of these N-Fabs racks or the T-Force. Any of the guys on here that were looking to sale still have them? Interested, let me know.

They're useless, offer no protection, will potentially cause more damage in an off-road impact etc. Reminds me of "brush guards" aka damage multipliers that were so popular in the 90s. Seems like N-Fab products cater towards the "Off road look" market.

Well to be fair, they aren't marketed as sliders, they're steps.
