N-Fab step-up / running boards for Trail Edition

I received my rails today that I ordered 5/17. Not bad on the turn around! I just finished my spacers and painted them, had to wait to get the rails for the holes on the spacers.
If you recall I used the thicker material so I had one side slotted and one side tapped. I will run my bolt thru on the tapped side and top off with a nut to lock it in. I "should" have the rails mounted in the next day or so, worst case this weekend.

Are you planning on doing the welds?

Can you post a pic of the slotted side? Why did you slot them?

The N-Fab Steps are great for every day use, As far as going hard core 4wheeling in Rocky Terrain I would get a set of Rock Rails. They all are pretty easy to put on. N-Fab does have the rock rail with the removable steps that could be a good option. I like the what I have but am debating going to a Full on Rock Rail for serious off road during Hunting season. But 10 months out of the year it sees pavement the majority of the time and these steps are Excellent and are in the right place. I have a 3 Inch lift so it is quite a bit higher than a stocker with smaller wheels. :ak472:

Nice rig. I like the lift. Unfortunately, I don't have a TE, so the wheel to wheels don't work unless I mod them, as Airwolf and Keemonrunnin have done. I'm still contemplating it.

I am NOT planning welding anything. I already have them mounted so I will not able to take a picture of the slotted side, but it's just a slot the same size as the Nfab mount. I slotted them to make sure I had plenty of room to line everything up. Probably not needed, but wanted to make sure I did not design myself into a corner. Took my machinist 20 minutes longer so no big deal.

The upside!
They are SOLID! I had my wife and me (115lbs and 195lbs) both stand on and jump on the rails... No movement! Took me 1 hour to install everything. A BIG thanks to Keemonrunnin for paving the way!!!!

Now the "possible" down side.
These rails are LOW. I am planning on a 3" lift and larger tires in the next 2 weeks so it's not a problem, but without a lift (everything stock) they only clear the ground by 9" at the lowest point at the steps. The 4" drop for the SR5 side panels is a *****! I figure after the lift and tires I will have 13+" of clearence, but these still will be the lowest point on the 4R. I don't plan on much off-roading so again it does not effect me, but for the hard core guys it could be an issue.

I will post some pictures tomorrow and of course once the tires/lift is done for some good before and after shots to compare.

I'm glad you did. I don't plan on lifting mine anytime soon. I'll definately be looking for your pics before you lift it.

Did you have the stock running boards on it? What was the clearance on them? Actually, I can just measure mine.....

Airwolf: Glad to hear everything is working out for you. Can't wait to see how it looks on your rig. Even if you didn't have the steps the lowest part of your rig is the center of your rear axle. Well once you get your lift you will be very happy with your results.

I don't know why some pics I can see, and some are just blank. Damn IT guy.

I'll check them out tonight at the house. I measured my runners, and I have about 10" in the rear and 9.5 up font, or something close to that.

I did not know the running boards were that low, so at 9" it's seems almost a wash! I guess I got spoiled looking at the huge amount clearence before the rails

I took off the rockers and running boards on my SR5. Can anyone tell me for sure whether the TE N-Fab steps will fit? The only problem I could imagine is if the mounting holes in the body are different in the TE and SR5???

I e-mailed N-Fab and they said they won't fit. They didn't say why. While I wait for them to get back to me with the specific reason, does anyone know why they would not fit with the rockers removed? Different rocker mounting holes on the TE???

They should fit. If you look at what the SR5 guys did, they just made 3 spacers. The holes line up.

Yes they should fit. Mounting holes are the same. The LE and SR5 are the same. As the TE are also the same just without the rocker panels.

Thanks for all the help, guys! I'm ordering a set of the TE bars tomorrow. If they don't fit, I guess we will all eat our words! My newbie opinion may be less valuable than that of some long time posters, but I say JUST TAKE OFF THE STUPID ROCKERS! Really, it looks fine, unless you look all the way underneath and are actually offended by the little unfinished plastic piece and one bolt that it leaves visible on the front. Are we looking for a pretty soccer-mom truck or a 4X4?
