I hope you don't mind many people having the same bumper as you! That thing is awesome. Its a cross between my two favorites...the tube from Savage and plate from 4x Innov. Now I don't have to choose between the two!

Thanks Isaac, I really like the trimmed up ARBs. Any plans to do any work on yours? Regarding the bug shield, its an OEM Toyota one i picked up a couple months ago through the local dealer.

Thanks Robert, I am very happy with it! Both of the bumpers you mentioned look great, too bad i have to use my imagination to picture them on a 3rd gen. It blows my mind how many companies make armor for 1st gen tacos and leave us out. Thankfully CBI has its priorities straight!

Yep that is a sexy bumper!!! CBI did an awesome job on that one for sure. And glad they are stepping up and making a hybrid bumper finally. I hopefully will have my custom one from them sometime in October ad I am thinking am am going to try and plan to go to TOTH next year. Let me know how the meet it

Me either, thats really what did it for me. Something unique that was more than just plate or wide open tube. I'm really looking forward to next weekend also, what time and day are you and your group planning on rolling into camp?

I had someone stop me on base today to ask me about the new bumper, Ive gotten a few compliments from strangers.
I must say that the last month has been pretty rough in the mods department. Awesome updates but man did i have my patience tested and even had to leave her in the garage for a full week while i waited on an axle part to show up. It all started about a month ago when i got a hand from a couple buddies and bolted the bumper on, no major headaches, just took a bit as it is a tight fit to the frame and getting all the mounting points lined up took some time. Its held on by no less than 14 bolts, i never drilled out the last two on the front.
The real kick in the balls came after i wired the LED bar and winch up to my battery to get nothing more when i hit the switch but some clicks coming from the solenoid box.
It was late on a friday night so i unbolted the front plate and tried to troubleshoot, couldn't get it to work. My battery is strong and read at 12.9 volts so i knew it wasnt that. All my connections were tight and corrosion free, i was dead in the water. An email into ENGO went un answered so i called Monday afternoon, after talking with Joel he said we would try and new controller and control pack as that was the likely problem. I didnt get the replacement parts for a week and a half. I wasn't pleased with the wait in the least. Well guess what, shit still didnt work. I talk to Joel again and he says he will send me a motor. I asked that it be sent quicker than UPS and he said "well this is expensive, i dont know that i can do that". I almost lost it, I wasn't asking for overnight but both shipments of replacement parts would have fit in Flat rate Priority boxes and i would have had them in 2-3 days. Another week goes by and the motor gets the winch to working properly, so i was finally able to button everything up and be done with the front bumper setup.
I have always heard such great things about ENGO and their products being backed by great customer service, I cant say i back up either of those claims. The first shipment was delayed 3 days because "our printer is broke and we cant print address labels". Seriously, WTF? I wish i had the extra cake laying around to pony up for a new Warn Xeon or TJM Stealth but its just not in the cards currently. Either way, its over now and hopefully it works when it really counts.

On to the next saga in my build thread, about a month ago or so i contacted Nachopitt about what his plans were for his fresh Spartan locker since he just scored the swap of the century with Jim(4-ripcord). Turns out he is an awesome dude and helped me out with a good deal on it, it had less than 5k miles on it and he said he never had any real problems with it.
I've been wanting/needing a locker for sometime now and just couldn't find the deal i was looking for on an e-locker, so i figured what the hell, i used to daily drive my EB with a full detroit in it for several years. I was doing it!
A couple weeks ago i finally get everything together to do the install, fresh oil, gasket maker, [MENTION=88576]smkd13[/MENTION] 's awesome locker how-to and finally a set of instructions for a Spartan install on "non c-clip axles" I thought i was good to go. Again started this project late on a friday night, got everything torn down and had the third sitting on my work bench, and couldn't figure out the best way to reset my carrier bearing pre-load. :help:
I called Ben, and man is he a wealth of knowledge, walked me through everything he could and bs'd with me about other stuff, good guy for sure. Got it back together feeling pretty good and let it sit overnight before taking it out for a test saturday. From the moment i pulled out of my drive i could tell something wasn't right. I am used to and expected the inner tire to scrub at times but this insane, not only could i hear my inner tires scrubbing and dragging, i could also hear the outer tire. Shit did not sound good! I thought okay maybe it just needs some time to break loose and find its sweet spot, well that never happened. It was locked up tight and wasnt breaking free to do any sort of differentiating at all. So i parked it to calm down and step away from it for a couple days ready to tear it down Monday morning as i had a couple days off work. Meanwhile i find the correct and specific instructions that tell me of the fatal mistake i made. I left the thrust washers installed!
Great, easy fix! Nope i cracked the 3rd open and find this. Broken ass spacer that installs between the drivers.
Call up Randy's Ring and Pinion and they are just awesome, ship me the part i need same day free of charge, free shipping. I was tickled.
I had finally caught a break it seemed. I borrowed a friend's pos jeep grand cherokee for the week and had everything fixed and put back together by the following Saturday morning.

About to button everything back up for good. Hopefully.
It works! It bangs, clanks, and locks up at weird times but I am getting used to it and how to best control and influence the lockup. And offroad, oh the traction! No worries about floating a tire and losing forward progress anymore. I am currently running 80-140w cheap gear oil for the break-in and planning to go to Redline Heavy Shockproof fluid in a month or so. Maybe it will smooth it out. Shakedown run on Sunday, i am hoping for some good luck and ill let everyone know how all the new upgrades work. :tea:
Thats all the front flex you can get out of extended Icons, fully stuffed and fully drooped out.

Although I'm still not a big fan of CBI, I must admit that the bumper looks sharp.
They have some nice design cues in there that compliment the lines of the rig. For example, the way the inside edges of the front plate sections have a curvature similar to the outside edges of the grille, and the way the contour of the hoop follows the countour and size of the grille. It looks very futuristic.
I really wish I could make it to Thrill on the Hill. I'm going to try and make a point of it next year to request the vacation time well in advance.

i havent planed to, cause if i trim that i will lose a lot of the strength in the bumper, that lower piece that guys trim off has an "L" shape to it and that lower flat part adds a lot of strength to the bumper... if i did id have to weld on a new flat piece on the bottom to try and gain some of that strength back... i guess i could do that being as though ARB owes me a re-powdercoat job anyways... there is some rust that started happening back in dec under the powdercoating -bought it in oct of '12 and by december i had a rust blister on one of the bull bars on the corner of the drivers side headlight, called them and they gave me the option of either a new bumper, re-powdercoat job or some recovery gear or lights, i dont need anymore lights, i have more recovery gear than i can shake a stick at, and why get a new bumper... id rather just do a few mods to this one like cut some holes in it for recessed fog lights and maybe some holes for added air flow -put some heavy gauge expanded metal to cover them and then get it re-powdercoated... i might trim of the bottome of it but i really dont see that as such a hang up for me, as im not gonna hard core wheel this thing, its more of a very very capable daily driver. im more interested in overlanding than extreme wheeling especially with this. i have a '94 runner and a 85 pickup that ill wheel if i want to do more extreme stuff. -the 94 is gonna get a SAS and full in-cab cage with dual tcase(one 4.7) and 529 with ARBs ect on 37s... its gonna be a trailer queen and my "hard core" wheeler. i still have to have something i can take the wife to dinner in lol -outback steakhouse here i come lol

You're getting some impressive flex out your rear suspension! I know the control arms will help a good bit with that but I was wondering what length 5150's you have on the back? And how much up travel you have a ride height?
And you are still running a rear swaybar, but with the front longer endlinks correct?
And of course, the bumper looks awesome, any idea on how much it weighs?

Thanks for your words and impressions, I was wondering when you were going to stop in and check out what's new around here, I wasn't sure if it would pertain to the lower links, locker or bumper. Or all three.
Honestly Nick, I think the asspain that Cbi gave you was a huge wakeup call for them to do better not only with their product fitment but their customer service as well. I think they saw the power of internet forums and the impact of a well written and documented experience that didn't go like it should have. I guess I am saying Thanks for lighting a fire under them!
It would be great if you could make it down next year, it's about time for us to nail down a date and plan our fall trip we discussed a couple months back. PM coming shortly regarding that.

You're welcome. I've actually been stopping in quite a bit over the last few weeks, but I only get about 10 minutes at a time on the forum these days with the kiddo running around. I rarely get a chance to read & digest everything and/or comment. That being said, I'm on graveyards this week with some slow time at work, so I'm catching up.
RE the links, I really like the design. The 1/4" square tubing is a new take on things, and it should be plenty strong. I also like how you retained the factory bushing on the axle side (quiet, flexy), and added some flex on the other side with the uprgraded joints.
As far as the locker goes, my crystal ball says it won't stay for long. Considering how the rest of your build has gone (best of the best parts), I thought it was a little odd that you'd go with a non-selectable unit. I'd be willing to bet that it gets upgraded at some point.
I was reminded of my loathe for CBI when I read your write-up, and about how they welcomed your feedback and suggestions for improvement. When I called with my problems they told me that my truck was a one-off, my frame was bent and/or manufactured irregularly, etc. It's like night and day, apparently, how they treated you versus how they treated me. I'm glad for all of you guys that they're doing better now, but it sucks that I had to get hosed in order for that to happen. /rant
I was thinking about the fall trip when I was posting my last reply here in your thread. I'll keep an eye out for the PM.
Great write up! It was great to drive around, take a turn a bit sharp and hear it pop - as the driver, you get used to it. Your passengers will think you are in the middle of a drive by shooting.
Bumper looks great - As with BFAD, I think the lines look pretty futuristic. I am not usually a fan of tube bumpers, but that came out pretty nice.
