NAV System Problems?

I have been lurking here since early January after ordering a Blizzard Pearl Limited at the local dealership. Ordered all loaded up minus the third row seats.

Now to give a little background and set the tone, my wife is in the auto industry and is a comptroller for a major dealership chain in NJ. However, the chain has all domestic makes. She knows the GM @ the local Toyota dealership and some of the sales people that have worked for her dealership are at the Toyota dealership as well. So with that stated, we trust the information we get from them.

About two weeks ago we get a call from the GM at the dealership and he tells us our vehicle is due to be delivered in two weeks. A week after the initial verbal promise of delivery date no vehicle.

I call the dealership to get a status report and they say that they are going to call the zone representative and find out what the story is. I think to myself, here we go! Yesterday the GM calls us and tells us the vehicle is in the port and call him back today and he will have more information. I call today and he states that he has bad news. Toyota is having problems with the NAV systems (which are installed at the port) and it is on hold at the port and Toyota will not release the vehicle until the issue is resolved. He is not sure if it hardware or software but there is a problem. He states that Toyota expects to have the vehicle delivered by 4/26.

Has anyone heard of or aware of this problem?

Yea, it's not a GM !!!

Kidding, there's no problem. You probably got a good price but there's more demand at a better margin for others.

That is a month away, something does not seem right. Sounds to me like they have traded your 4R out from under you and are waiting for the next one to show up on the boat! Personally I would not be happy and tell them you are going to back out and go to another dealer. A few days or a week I could understand, a month for Nav unit issue, I dont think so. Best of luck!

there is NO freaking way the port is installing a nav system. That is a factory installed option. They are giving you the run around dude...

Agreed.. Ive been on a couple vehicle manufacturing tours and have never seen anyone leave a stereo out of the vehicle. The dash is all assembled and then they stick it in the vehicle.

BS, Toyota does not install nav units at the ports. He is pulling your leg. What part of Jersey are you from? What dealer is this? I bought my truck from Galaxy Toyota.

My dealer tried to get me to accept one that came from the factory without Nav, and then install it at the dealer... get the Vehicle Inquiry report and check the sticker before you sign anything. If there is no Nav on the sticker, or no NV or ND on the Vehicle Inquiry Report then they are lying.

Yup... sounds lame. But since your wife has a business relationship w/ this guy... I would take the approach that you can't want a month - that you have a family trip planned or something. Have they offered to locate a comparable vehicle for you? Seems like that would be the logical next step.

They also might be pushing you back w/ the end of month here - and want to keep their numbers as high as possible.

Good luck.

Yeah, I thought the story sounded bogus. Dayton Toyota in South Brunswick Rt 130 is the dealer.

So basically I have gone to 2 dealers located in in Orange County, CA. Similiar to what this thread about and they arent shipping any *TRAIL* 4runners with NAVs to California at this time. I called Desert Toyota in nevada. THey dont have anything nor show anything coming. Also, San Francisco and Checked Portland area Toyotas.

Not sure what is going on. One dealer said two people bought two but they are on a list to receive it and not sure when they will be getting theirs.

This is a real bummer.

Don't give up... tell them they need to get the "ND" Nav package and not the "NV", as ND comes with KDSS. And then show them the Trail Edition sitting on the lot in Hawaii. That way they know that you know they are full of carp.
