Does this DVD work with all Toyotas that have the navigation system? Buddy's wife has a RAV4 and hers doesn't have the latest updates either.

If you get Entune nav unit, you might not need an updated DVD.

Has anyone done this yet? Is the DVD only available through dealers or are there some floating around that can be shared? And any costs?
I had a 2006 Sienna Limited with Navigation and it was referred to as a Toyota 5th Gen Navigation. The eBay listings generally will show you the compatible vehicles and model years, but you need to double check. So I had to make sure during our 3 updates over the years I always had the DVD for "5th Gen" systems. You can find them for sale on eBay or sometimes in the online forums' for-sale areas for $50-100 as a used DVD. The 2012 T4R I purchased has the v11.1 (2012 edition) DVD so I could in early 2013 the v12.1 should be released. I forget when Lexus/Toyota and Infiniti do their updates since the data comes from companies like Navteq. Toyota was always cheaper than Infiniti. I do remember that Infiniti charged $150-200 per DVD update without their later in the season discount postcards, which is crazy expensive in my opinion!
I always wished there was a way to get a list of areas or info that was improved with each udpdate. I know at least one update seemed to do "nothing" for our area and after 6+ years the latest maps still were missing newer neighborhoods and streets in some local towns. So ... your mileage may vary. We are leaning towards a Limited with the upgraded JBL sound system without Entune.
I'll post what version map we have. I will also try to find out about any "free" updates when we get the 4R.

I have a 2012 4Runner with display and Entune. I purchased the disc for 12.1 a little while ago but I can't figure out how to get it to update. The DVD player doesn't recognize the disc as an upgrade. Is there a different location for the Nav DVD besides where the normal CD/DVD goes? My display does not fold down like some of the others that I have seen. I guess mine is a different model. Thanks!

Isn't it on a flash drive (USB)? I think the owners manual might help you out.

From a few threads I've read on other Toyota forums...it seems like the entune map update might be a dealer only service; something about how you have to load it via flash drive and use techstream to generate some license code. Perhaps you can inquire with your dealership and report back? I am curious as well
Thanks for the response! Unfortunately the owner's manual I have (and got from the dealer) does not have anything about the display model with Entune. It only has the standard head units in it. Just my luck... I will see if I can find one online some where and read up on it.

bringing this back to life. your site makes it seem as though one needs to get the next version disc and then the next and then the next, etc. Instead of just stepping up to the most recent one.
For example:
I have a 2010, factory preloaded with Version 9.1,
Do i need to go get:
- 2011 Gen 6 10.1 Version 10.1 notes
- 2012 Gen 6 11.1 Version 11.1 notes
- 2013 Gen 7 (uses micro SD card) 12.1 Version 12.1 notes
- 2014 Gen 7 (uses micro SD card) 13.1 Version 13.1 notes
to get to the most recent:
2015 Gen 7 (uses micro SD card) 14.1 Version 14.1 notes
or can i just jump to this one: 2015 Gen 7 (uses micro SD card) 14.1 Version 14.1 notes
also i realize you note that it comes on SD card, but could i still get an updated disc for my 2010 to get the most up to date NAV i can get on it? I typically use my smartphone for all navigation but sometimes its nice to just zoom in on the screen and use the stock NAV.
basically i'm trying to see if its worth it for me to get:

You can just make the jump directly to the latest version, no need to get everything in between. Also, you nav generation never changes. If your nav is Gen6 (2010 4Runner), then you always stay with that generations update which in your case will always be released on disc. My chart simply details what Gen each model year nav system is.
Definitely not worth it to get the disc at the link you provided. There are great places to obtain much cheaper and more reliable too.
