What do you mean "is it still 2009?"
Trying to remember the last year anyone used a garmin nav instead of their phone/tablet
You really should get out of the city sometimes..
Offline navigation has been available for years, Garmins are for septuagenarians

Really? I find it to work quite well and has even been more accurate than google maps in a couple of occasions. I like being able to easily zoom in and out....scroll the screen in any direction, add points if interest like gas stations, Dunkin’ Donuts, hospitals, Toyota dealerships etc.

Unless you're a truck driver, Google Maps works fine. When you have no cell service, the factory navigation works fine.

Not sure whay people still use google maps... pretty sure google owns waze, which is more accurate, updates in real time with traffic and alerts you to road hazards, cops and redlight scameras.
I've probably used the stock nav maybe 5 times in the past 4 years, only as a back up if my phone is dead or needs to be replaced.

We septuagenarians call offline navigation "paper road maps". When those tear or crumble with age, I use my factory nav--works just fine.
I backed over my smart phone with my 4r. Figured if it was as smart as everyone claims, it would get out of the way--it wasn't.

Now that's funny! Since I don't own a so called "smart" phone and never will the nav in the Runner is fine with me.

So, does anyone use maps? Gps is great and all, but I like maps.
Stick with your maps..GPS in the 4Runner is great if you don't mind adding an hour to your 4 hour trip..
Not sure what HU is but if it's the original GPS I can understand..How much does it cost to get an in dash GPS that works as good as my hand held?
Had to google it but it looks likes just the ticket..Only problem for me is I would need a year long training course to learn how to use it..

Could never figure out why people find it necessary to bash people on the internet for an opinion or need different than their own. Does it make you feel important or sometime?
Anyway, depending on where you live Google might not work, this happens a lot in eastern rural Indiana. North 550 East? WTF is that? Depending on where you live the factory maps might not work, this happens in western rural Ohio. Depending on how you use your phone/nav/stereo together you might want multiple solutions.
To the point I often use the factory nav without much issues. But I also don't go on a long trip or service call in any vehicle without a recently updated Garmin stand alone unit.
