Navigation DVD Squeak?

2010 LE with Navigation. I am hearing intermittent squeaking (what some might consider chirping) when driving, unless the radio is turned up very loud. It has been going on for months, but will go through stretches where I don't notice it.

It is driving me bananas. The only way I can make it stop is to remove the map DVD, which seems to indicate that the DVD reader is the culprit. Can't figure if it is a mechanical squeak or something electrical that is being transmitted through the speakers.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi rj,

Can't say for sure but it sounds like the light weight grease on those plastic gears has dried up and so, makes a lil' fuss under certain weather conditions e.g., low humidity, low temperatures... etc. If you're handy with tools and don't mind getting dirty, you could pull the hu out, open it up and see what all the commotion's about. If you do get in it, a drop of vegetable oil will likely put that old grease back in service!

BTW: How do you access the navi map DVD... I went online last week and searched for the answer but came up empty handed. The Toyota website had some information on it, but the hu that they used to demo was different than mine; which is the: X-M Radio, H-D))

I appreciate your feed back on the subject, Best!

Thanks so much. I'll give that a shot.

Getting the DVD out is not intuitive at all. The button sequence is [hard button] "InfoPhone" --> [soft button] "Map Data" --> [soft button] eject-symbol "DVD".

I just took pictures of the sequence if you would like to see them. Just PM me your email address and I can send them over.
