There is a workaround to get the override function back. It involves replacing the loading.kwi file on the new DVD with the version from the old DVD and then burning the disc on DVD+R DL disc.

Unfortunately, the dealer didn't give me the old disc back. That was one of the reasons I was suspicious. Since they fixed the problem for free, I don't feel like I have any grounds to complain unless they gave me the wrong disc in the end.

I believe the updated DVD you got, only updates the software to fix the bug and nav accuracy, and disable the secret override function. Map data I think is the same as the old disc.

Anyhow, here are directions to create that hybrid override DVD along with the older loading.kwi file that allows the ovveride functionality. I haven't done the hybrid DVD, so I wouldn't be able to provide further assistance. Good luck.

Thank you for providing this link! I see there is more info out there than I realized. I read through the entire thread and learned lots of interesting stuff.

In the end, though, I don't think the modified disc would work for me. My nav was definitely having a problem with the older firmware. The TSB upgrade gave me a new disc with the same data, but newer firmware to fix the problem I was having. If I made a hacked disc as described, I think I would be just recreating my original disc--restoring the override, but also restoring the bug I ran into.

The only way I could restore the override satisfactorily would be reverse-engineering the code and programming it in myself. I am, in fact, a programmer by trade, but I don't think I'm going to attempt this.

You are overthinking this. I had the same exact problem as you and got the same disc upgrade. I copied my old disc to grab the loading.kwi file. Copied the new disc, substituted in the old loading.kwi, and then burned a new disc. The problem was fixed, your issue would be the same.

Usually my problem is underthinking, so this may actually be a sign of progress.

If the hack worked for you, I'll give it a try. My impression was that the nav bug was also in the loading.kwi file, so I would be restoring the bug. I guess that conclusion was unjustified, though.

Success, I think!

I made the DVD as described. I just used the Sonic RecordNow software that came with my Dell computer. I first tried the new DVD to see if I could do normal functions. That worked, so I killed the brain in the nav system by pulling the two radio fuses under the hood for ten minutes. (I lost the radio presets of course.) When I powered everything back up, it re-loaded from my modified DVD.

So far, everything is great. The override function is restored. Hurray! I've driven about four hours and the GPS bug hasn't shown up yet. (Of course it didn't show up in the first six months I owned the vehicle, either. I suppose it could return eventually.)
