I have a 2003 4wd Sport Edition...I just obtained a factory Navigation system. It is actually out of a 2004 Camry. Where do I mount the GPS antenna in the 4Runner? I am sure there is a pre-designated spot for it, since it is an option on this vehicle already...I just don't know where it is located...
Also, I was wondering if there is a way to create an RCA output from the harness that connects the system to the JBL amp? I would love to hook up an external powered sub to the setup...

Thanks for the post. The unit that I got was out of a 2004 Camry, which was nice because there was no external CPU to hook up. There are 2 problems though. First is that the antenna mount is different. Basically, I duct taped it to the underside of the dash, and it seems to get good reception. Second problem is that the buttons are lit with green lights...I have to figure out how to change them to orange...I guess another project to do...I guess I can call some audio repair places. I am sure someone can do it for me...
 
Navigation Install Issues

I have a few questions for you. I just installed the same unit in my '03 4Runner (out of a 2004 Camry from oemvalue.com). I am having a few issues and want to see if you have the same issues.

I start the vehicle and it finds my location fine, I input a destination and the voice tells me to proceed to the highlighted route. I do so and while the route is labeled, I never hear another thing again until I have reached the destination, and then the voice says, "You have reached your destination". I checked the menus and made sure that voice navigation was turned on. The second problem is that if I follow the route on the screen (there is no voice) and go off route, it does not recalculate the route to compensate. I, again, checked the menu and made sure that Automatic Recalculation was turned on.

It's kind of useless without this working, so I want to see if I missed something.

The ECU is built into the stereo unit. You open the faceplate and there is both a DVD-Rom drive for the NAV and CD-Rom drive for music.
 
Nav Install Help

It is supposed to. I don't have 10 speakers though. I'm going to add them in a couple of months. Right now I'm trying to get the speed sensor hooked up as the system has the ECU in the stereo head instead of separate. So the speed sensor to NAV hookup is run to the back of the truck. I'm pouring through the electrical diagrams to try and figure out where to patch into it.
 
Can't find a place yet around Santa Monica that can change the lights from green to orange. Does anyone know of anyone who does this? I would send it out if needed...Thanks
I noticed too that the voice command tells you when you are starting and finishing, but nothing in between. Luckily, the route is highlighted, so it is still easy to get the route down by looking...
A am trying to figure out the wiring so I can wire in an ext powered sub. I am also going to replace the factory speakers with infinity kappas when I get the time and energy....

How hard/easy was it to install it? I'm thinking of getting one myself but after looking in my Toyota shop manual it looks like a lot of work (remove the whole dash and console). Did you install it yourself? If not, how much do they charge for installation and who can do th e installation if I get the unit myself?

I did it myself. Actually it is pretty easy to do. THe console and dash come apart very easily. Just a few screws and a bunch of fasteners, and it comes apart...4 bolts and the factory stereo is out. The only challenge is mounting the amp. I managed to fit it in the little hide-away box in the upper part of the glovebox. I just cut a small hole in the back of it for the wiring harness to exit...
A couple of issues:
1) THe voice does not work. I guess the unit needs to be connected somehow to the speedometer. It does outline the routes correctly, and is easy to follow...It just doesn't speak to you.
2) The lights on the buttons are green color since it came from a 2004 Camry. THis bugs the hell out of me, and I am still looking for someone to replace the little bulbs, which look like they are LED's, so may actually need to be hardwired in and out...
3) The rear door speakers hardly put out any sound. TO adust the fader only makes the front speakers sound weak, and still not much sound comes from them. I plan to have a second amp to power the rear speaers and perhaps a sub installed...(this problem w/ the rear speakers seems to be a common problem with the JBL units (nav and non-nav). There are other posts addressing this issue.
