Need advice for a friend.

Hi guys, my friend recently bought a 2014 Toyota Tacoma TRD and he is looking for winter tires. Can someone post me a link or any data on tire sizes he can go.

Hi is a bit of a nerd and is scared to go up in bigger size. His dealer told him to stay with stock size but I am telling him to get some bigger rubbers on that SH&?.

The truck is bone stock TRD version. Will it rub is he gets Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs ? 285/70r17 it is either that or he goes stock. Thank you all for your always good input.

I also got my truck back since the face/off I will post picks of the truck without the big grille guard, take a while to get that kind of stuff here in Montreal :/ yeah I know it sucks.

What would your motivation be for suggesting larger than stock tires for winter?

EDIT: And why the Duratracs vs a true winter tire?

285's would absolutly rub. he can go 275's and he might have to trim mudflaps and some plastic on the fender.

Duratracs are winter tires, they have the snow Icon, at least mine do. And isn't Bigger Better ?

Unfortunately they do not make 275/65r17 or 275/70r17 so I think he will go with stock size.

duratrac are an A/T not a dedicated winter tire, that snowflake icon means thay are rated for winter. bigger better?.. not for most applications.. for road snow driving smaller (narrower) is better because it cuts through the snow to get down to traction better.... in deep powder wider is better because you can air down and float on top of the snow rather than bogging down in it.

As was stated earlier/above, you need to be careful going 'Oversize' w/rubber. 285/70 is way too large w/o lift and mods. I'm running 275/55 R20 with 'NO LIFT' and that was playing it close. I can, however, get tires to rub if I crank the steering wheel hard and hit an entrance ramp or driveway; nothing serious, just a mild rub. 275/55 is the largest I would feel comfortable installing w/ no lift or alterations! In Quebec you're required by law to have winter or mountain/snowflake tires at the minimum, so I'm guessing that's what he's looking for.
[MENTION=85641]calcrc[/MENTION] is this just for city driving? There are so many better choices than Duratracs for winter at the same price. Duratracs are only good on ice for the first winter and then they might as well be hockey pucks. Tell him to look at Nokians instead.
