Need advice, hail damage repair or not?

Have minor hail damage on my roof and a couple on the hood. Can't see them unless you're looking for them. Insurance adjuster estimated the damage at about $2500 dollars and said the repair should take 4 days. All of it is slated for paintless dent repair on the estimate. Anyway, I took the 4Runner to two different shops to see what they'd do and one says it'll cost $5000 to repair so I went to shop two and they didn't argue with the estimate but they said it might take a month to do the work. I also called my insurance company back and they confirmed that a month is not out of the ordinary for the repairs and out of frustration I asked could I just keep the damage money that they'd already deposited in my bank account and they said they didn't care. I could do whatever I wanted to with it.

I'm not too concerned about the damage as it's really minor but I wanted to know what you guys would do in the same circumstance? Keep the money, rent a car for a month, or find another shop?

I dont know how new your truck is, or if you care about resale value. If you dont care to resell the truck, then keep the money if you can live with the dings. Like Superwhite said...you can throw a roof rack on top with that extra cash hehe. If you are looking to resell the truck, and if insurance is willing to cover the damage, get it done. See if they offer rental car reinbursement for the duration of the repair.

It's a 2016 SR5 and I'll keep it for probably ten years like I did with my 2004 SR5. Not sure about the Carfax stuff to be honest. And my insurance for comprehensive doesn't cover rental cars. Collision they do as far as I know.

You are in Texas. Do me a favor - Don't spend the money or get it repaired yet. Leave it parked outside in the sun for a few weeks. If you can still see the dents then make a decision. Slight dings that are not on creases or have an edge to the dent, especially with dark colors, will sometimes pop themselves because of the heat. If they pop out to your satisfaction then spend the money on something else.

You should be clear. As far as i know they only report "major damage" due to hail. You can confirm by asking your insurance agent. If you are not worried about resale, then dont worry about carfax.

you could for $100 and less get the glue stick dent puller kits.. also the hammer kit to push down it you lift too high..

many have done this with the small dents with good success.. do it when you have time it works ..

Hale to the dings

My FJ got the same hale dings in New England. Traded it on a 4runner 3 years later. Dealer never spotted them. I kept the $3K ins claim.

I lived in Fort Worth, Texas for three years. Shingle came off the apt bldg and ripped paint off of my F150 right near the drivers window. Co-worker had a 12" softball size hail hit his Bronco II. At least two major f'ed up storms in three years.

I think its not a question of if but when, will get hail damage again.

If they are not noticeable, just keep the money.

You can always change your mind later on, or only get a few of the dents fixed.
