Need Advice in Choosing a New LED Tail Lights :) (Brand new to T4R)

Hello everyone,

I have a '99 White 4Runner SR5 4WD; I would like to upgrade my tail lights to LED but need some opinions & advices in choosing.

I have narrowed down to 2 choices(links below) after searching on ebay & on this forum; Which one is better and would you prefer? Do I need to worry about any technical problems if I upgrade to LED tail lights (such as ABS light coming on after installation)? (I don't know much about car parts; I am planning to ask my mechanic to install the Tail LEDs for me after I buy from ebay.)

I have a question... if I were to buy the LED tails from SaberSport and if some defects were to happen after the 30 days "return period", do SaberSport only charge $30 for a brand new replacement? (Want to be 100% sure before I make a decision.)

I honestly don't know. I just emailed them and told them about my problem. They were nice and gave me a new set for almost nothing.

O. I do get a feeling that SaberSport has very good customer service based on the large amount of posts from this forum.

Probably going to save them as a backup in case something wrong with LEDs after installing them.

Mmmm... it's hard to decide whether to go with the clear one or the clear red one... what color of tails looks good with the white paint... the clear one seems to be more noticeable than the clear red... which one is brighter?

I vote the OEM red look kind because they look very clean... just my opinion.

I ordered mine from Sabersport too. Mine haven't had any issues, though.

Oh, and BTW, don't waste your money having someone install them.

I made a video on installation like 2 years ago, I know it's not the best video and I was using a POS digital camera but it's better than paying.

The only thing I don't understand about the LED tails is why do all of them still use a normal bulb for the blinker?...it would be so much cooler if it had orange LEDs, the direct costs couldn't be that much higher and they could tack on another $50 to the cost....I am thinking about making my own to include the brake and blinker.

Do these ones keep your ABS light from coming on? I really need to take care of that problem with mine...

Go with smoked lenses!!! They look great, especially with LED 3rd brake lights.

I also have a white 4R, i went with the smoked LED tails and i have a clear LED 3rd brake light, I personally loved the tails but i would highly recommend a smoked 3rd brake light aswell. Dont have any daytime pictures right now, but I'll post them once i get it.

Mmmm, I was planning to get a LED 3rd brake light but after searching on the forums, I found that there are issues when LED tails & 3rd brake light are installed at the same time. Anyone could verify?

That would be wonderful. Want to see how the smoked LED tails look like on a white 4runner.

i vote smoked too. I think it will look good on white reguardless, but if your going for a cleaner look then the red and clear would look good too.

As for the 3rd brake light, this is the one that fits our OEM lift gate

96743runner is runnin a Jaos spoiler (i think) so its a whole diferent thing, but yeah someone already said it here but using a load resistor on the third brake light will trick the system into not throwing any ABS codes. Im not too familiar with how they work but i think its just connecting your wires to a small unit when you pull the old light out.

Im gonna be doing the LED taillight swap soon too, so good luck, post pics when you get them!

Yup, I have the Jaos Spoiler (comes with LED's). It cost me about $320 including shipping to Hawaii (expensive)

Yes, if you install LED taillights with an LED 3rd brake light, you will need to install a load resistor to keep the ABS light from turning on.

So just to clarify, all these links are for '96-00. But these LED tails will work on 01-02 also right? Just want to be sure before I get these.
