Need Advice re: Changing Wheels (from 20 to 17) on 2012 4Runner Limited

Me? Had to move the front fender liners forward a bit. Unscrewed them on the bottom, pushed them forward and drilled and screwed them in again. Documented a couple places on t4r.org if you search for fender liner mod.
The 275s look killer, and the mpg hit hasn’t been terrible (went from an indicated ~20 to ~18 on the highway).

Heat gun and pushed the liner in. There's a bump on the front liner that need to be inverted. Since then, I've added a bumper and tucked the liners up two more inches which ended up pulling them forward in the problem spot by about and inch

After reading about rubbing and such I think if I give this now mall crawler a few items it will serve me better.

After reading posts on here and on other forums, I think this setup would work?
Im not at this time looking to put a lot of overland equipment on the truck. Just maybe 2-300 lbs in the back.A prinsu roof rack maybe.
Any thoughts?

Röde, I think that will look good. 285s with a mild lift look great. That's the Tonka truck look that I love on a 4runner. They weigh about the same as the 275s (since 285s can be C rated, and 275s can only be had in E rated).
I went the way I did primarily because of cost. Figure on $4-6k for the lift and UCA, another $1k for the wheels, and $1.5k for the rubber (gotta replace your spare too - you should double check that a 285 fits in the spare location). You could hit $10k pretty easily. That's a lot to spend on a 40k truck.
All the parts you listed sound like they work together. I can't really comment on if the front and rear suspension is matched (or how much that even matters). But it'll get you the height to clear 285s. You'll likely still need to trim up the fender liners.
The one thing that gives me some pause is the wheel spacers. If you don't like the offset of the TRD pro wheels, get something else. Spacers are a weak point, and from what I've heard are not a great idea if you're doing any off roading. I know you said it's a mall crawler, but still.... I would go find some aftermarket wheels with the offset you want. I think 285s are recommended to be mounted on 7.5-8" wide rims anyway.
I'm on my 3rd set of BFGs - I really like them. Very tough, they're great off road, and highway noise isn't bad (measured 5db increase at 60mph from the old Toyo all seasons). Good in snow. My only complaint is that they aren't as great in the wet as a good set of all seasons, but they do fine. It seems like they slip a little bit under light load. Most noticeably, my 97 would spin the rears easily in the wet. Not an issue with the limited and AWD. They are better under braking, I think the extra weight as the front loads up helps them grip better and they stop well.
I've heard great things about the Coopers too, just have never owned a set.

And then I’m getting a set of new TPMS sensors from mcgeorgetoyota, had a decent price on them.
He said that the 42607-33022 was the correct fit for the 17 trd wheels. Hope it works. I could use the old ones from the limited wheels I guess. But I just want to make it a whole set.
-After some more research here. I decided to go with Amazon and the Denso 550-0103 TPMS Sensors. Seams to be the same and half the cost.

I just did this on my 2012 Limited. I swapped my 20in stock wheels (hey, anyone looking for a nice set up stock 20 in wheels????) for a set of 2017 trail wheels (complete with barely driven on tires). It's stupidly straightforward. I had Costco do the swap because I needed the TPMS sensors moved as well. It is a dramatic improvement over the 20 in wheels. There are a few people selling Trail wheels down in Colorado Springs - I'm sure there are some good deals up in Denver as well.
Obligatory picture, because I can. Running 265 70/17, and yes, the hideous running boards are the next thing I need to to "fix."
Did you have to recalibrate the speedometer? This is exactly what I’m doing. There are like 3 choices of crappy 20” tires for those rims.....

it confuses me how some folks swap to TRD pro rims and 265/70/17 tires and have rubbing and others do not. are certain tires like KO2 and Nitto not exactly true to size? how can this be with stock suspension and no spacers?
toyota dealers recommend (in Canada) for snow tires and rims 265/70/17 tires and replika 17" rims that are 8" wide and 5mm offset - for all trim levels of the 5th gen (wider rims than TRD pro). the TRD pro rims are 7" wide and 4mm offset. I would assume the two toyota dealers I spoke to would not recommend the same set up if it wasn't a perfect fit

I had rubbing on my limited with 265 Wildpeaks. Each 4Runner is just slightly different in the way it sits. That’s why some have the kdss lean, but some still don’t. But some tires run big as well. For instance the Wildpeaks have pretty deep tread but they’re also much more square in the shoulder block whereas the k02 are narrower in comparison.

If switching to a -10mm (or even more negative), 0mm, 4mm offset from the 15mm offset of Limited and TRD Premiun wheels most will likely need to do the fender liner mod with stock tires (265/70r-17)
This is a non issue with the 4runner Pros since Toyota has already done the fender liner mod to the Pros at the port/dealership to fit the 4mm offset of the Pro Wheels.

I switched my 20-inch wheels to SR5 wheels for winter tires, then decided to go to a different set of newer SR5 wheels when I went back to summer. Sold the 20-inch wheels and tires.
Everything was easy with the stock tire sizes. I had a tire shop clone the four TPMS sensor codes to the winter tires, then the same four codes to the new summer tires.

ah I see , I didn't appreciate that each vehicle would sit differently. was aware of the KDSS lean but even same trim levels I suppose would be slightly different vehicle to vehicle
The people that did have rubbing were running those more squared off tires, specifically Wildpeaks. I've seen someone on here run toyo open country 3 and TRDPRO rims with no issue. I figure then a standard winter tire wouldn't have an issue or even a less aggressive all terrain / M/S like the defender LTX or toyo
I'm curious if the fender modification is for newer 4runners after the front facelift in ~2014. In fact I haven't come across anyone with a 2010 - 2013 having rubbing issues with the TRD rim setup and that tire size. I believe there is someone here who had this exact issue, ran TRDPRO rims with a 2012 limited and wildpeaks, no rub, moved them to his new rig a 2016 limited and rub a dub dub
thanks, I was thinking of doing basically exactly what you have done. I don't dislike the limited 20" rims but I think I'd prefer a 17 with a light to medium offroad capable tire like the defender LTX M/S that can still handle well on the pavement.
