I'm thinking about ordering the Canvasback Liner and need to know exactly how thing attaches. The website says velcro, but does that mean I'll have to install permanent backer tape for the velcro?

Also, how hard is it to deal with the cargo shelf? I'm probably going to remove that too. Anyone want a grey cargo shelf?

Well, I got the Line A Trunk. I guess what tipped the scales was the cargo shelf problem. I had been considering taking it out and buying the replacement piece to fit in the cargo floor until my friend's truck was broken into. I figured that the cargo shelf would be useful for hiding things in the back without having to use the roll up cover. The LaT had an option to fit the cargo shelf and cover the wheel wells. I'm usually a minimalist when it comes to this stuff--that's why the Canvasback was the first choice--but LaT seemed to cover more. BTW, the carpet in the 4Runners is perfect for both of these types of liners. The velcro STAYS put.

Anyway, the Line a Trunk is a quality piece of equipment, but somewhat complex. It took me a full 2 hours to install it, but it fits amazingly well (as it should for the price). I took a long trip over the holiday weekend with my dogs and lots of equipment and I really appreciated the extra protection (lots of muddy paws and rain soaked gear).

Pros: Fits well, very protective, very high quality and color match is perfect (grey liner, grey interior).

Cons: Detailed installation, lots of velcro stickies.

Overall, I'm looking forward to having more truck time with my two Labs--they really dig the liner.

I'll try to post pics later this week.

Yes, you have to place velcro sticky tabs all over the interior of your rig. I was interested until I read that all important installation snippet.

I called and spoke to someone in the office for clarification. She said the liners have the hook side of the velcro, but not the loop. She stated that your truck's carpet acts like the bottom half of the velcro and keeps the liner in place--so you don't have to place sticky tabs on your truck. Sounds like will work in the 4Runners because of the carpet type. However, she did state that a few people had noticed that their liners did not adhere well.

I'll check it out. 90 day return policy seems good.

I will update this when I get it. Here's a reply I got on the same question at Yotatech. This seals the deal for me. I'll be ordering today.

I have the canvas back on my '03 4Runner and it was the best purchase I've made for the truck. With the amount of junk and crap that I've spilled in the back, it has been a lifesaver on the carpeting in the trunk.

I can confirm you don't need to install any velcro tabs or anything. The velcro on the Canvasback mates to the existing carpeting in the truck and does not slide or come undone. The pieces that go over the backs of the second row seat secure very nicely over the tops of the seats and under the headrests.

I loved the CanvasBack so much, I bought my parents one for their 04 Lexus RX330. They love it too!
 
I don't have the canvasback liner. I do however have this one http://mats4less.com/regelib4r.html . It does require the velcro because it goes up over the wheel wells and also has a piece for the tailgate. I haven't minded having to place the velcro at all, but I knew that I would be leaving this in place. I haul my dogs and lots of other grungy stuff, so it is perfect. I was coming home from Costco a few months ago and had laundry detergent spill all over the back. Thankfully this liner was down and I did not get any anywhere else. Just threw the liner in the wash and was good as new. One of the best purchases I have made for the Runner. And when it is time to sell it or trade it in a little goo gone or the like will take the velcro right off.

Does this one allow you to use the wheel well compartments? Does it have cut-outs in the fabric?
What about the double decker shelf....Do you have this?

That would be cool if it will fit with the DD shelf in place....you will have to let us know if you have to remove it.
 
The Rear Gear Line a Trunk looks really good as well. It doesn't look like there is any access to the wheel well storage bins. I wonder if there's any access to the tool and jack storage?

Anyone? Toss up now. I definitely like the coverage of the Line a Trunk and it has an option for the cargo shelf (that I never use).


Further thoughts? I've got an itchy mouse finger...

Canvasback

I have the Canvasback liner in my 2004 with the double-decker. The fit is perfect and it holds very tightly. I have two labs and it is easy to clean the hair out of the back.

How does it work with the double decker? Does it just fit over it? What happens if you actually raise the shelf?
Also, the part that covers the back seat, is it split just like the seats are (60/40) so one seat can lay flat?

The Rear Gear does allow you to use the double decker shelf--I have it. They offer two models--one with and one without the shelf. It does not however offer access to the two compartments on top of the wheel wells, though it isn't too hard to pull the liner down and get to them. It does have mesh over the area for the sub and a cut out for the auxillary outlet.
 
I'm thinking about buying a canvasback liner for my 05. I have the double-decker cargo system... Can someone who owns a liner and has the double-decker let me know if the two work together well. Do you have to take the canvasback out to use the dd?

I just spoke with someone from the company on the phone; they were very friendly. She said she sold one earlier in the week to someone with a dd and that she'd check with him soon to see how he likes it.
 
I have the rear gear liner. Along with the kit they include an extra adhesive that comes in a "pen". It has worked pretty well for me so far. And I live in NC and it isn't exactly cool here. But I guess only time will tell.

I have a Rear Gear in Austin. The little pens of 3M Primer 94 really make the velcro stick, but you need more pens than they give you. An extra 1/2 pt of Primer (see link) and a hobby paintbrush worked like a charm.

It takes some extra time, but otherwise the RG is great. The 60/40 seat split is taken care of with a zipper and the Double Decker is still functional--covered on top and underneath.

bmf4Runner - I have the Canvasback liner with the DD system. When installed, you will not be able to use the DD shelf. I have never used the shelf so it isn't an issue for me. The liner comes in 3 pieces. 1 lays flat on the cargo floor and has velcro all around. The other 2 pieces cover the back of each seat (60/40 split). If you want to use the shelf, all you have to do is pull up the floor liner. Let me know if you have any other questions.
 
Update...

I bought the Canvasback last week for my 2003 with the DD shelf. It fits on top of the shelf very good. I am able to raise the shelf and lower it without having to adjust or remove the liner. With the limited use I have had so far, I would recommend one.
Biggest complaint is it is difficult to reach the child safety seat hooks on the back of the seat once installed.
