Need Comfort Help!

Just spent 30 hours in the 4Runner and about 10 hours today running passes.

This SR5 is freaking uncomfortable. Like almost unbearable for long distances.

My body is beat and bruised. Back, legs, everything hurts anymore. I need some better comfort and so does the wife.

Are limited leather seats more comfortable?

I have heard the leather seats are more comfortable than the cloth

If you heavy duty springs and are unloaded, that will also beat you up a bit. I found my rear Dobinsons rode better when I was filled with crap moving

I installed the Desert Does It Seat Jackers and it helped with lower leg pain. They essentially lift the front to scoop the seat more and support your legs. I found it to improve comfort for me on a 5hr drive I used to make
 
Are the seats all different?
I never felt i needed more adj... have seen many unhappy with the seats, 5th gen and Tacos too.

Mine have a front and rear height adj.
The 'dial' is the up down in the front of the seat.
The 'lever' adjusts the height of the back lower part of the seat.

Nope same seats... some people don't seem bothered by it.. if you have any sort of lower back/ sciatica pain issue.. there just isn't enough tilt back to take the pressure off your lower back after a long ride.. the seat jackers compensate for this lack of adjustment..
 
I was going to call and see if they could rush them to where we’re staying, but probably no way they’ll get them to me in time.

We have about a 27 hour drive home and it’s going to suck.
 
Is your seat cushion worn out? Mine was after 13 years. I was also having back discomfort.

Replacing the cushion made a huge difference for me. You can buy them OEM from Toyota. Not too tough of a job
 
You just need more support under the knee/hamstring. I'm guessing you are average/tall?

Maybe swap your seats with a 5th gen when you can?

The rise at the front of the seat makes a huge difference relieving strain and fatigue. I would guess longer bolts and spacers would do the trick temporarily, or put a small pillow under the knee/hamstring.

Love the comfort of my 5gen, done thousands of hard miles and very comfortable.

oh yeah that too! I did that and it was equally as big as difference as the jackers.. if you do both its like buying a new seat..



ive looked into 5th gen or lexus seat swaps but I think its more complicated than its worth and doesnt fit right.

We had a 2006 gx470 for a while, that thing had terrible seats, leather too.
I would have to get out and walk around after an hour in the drivers seat.
Was like it cut the blood flow off to your legs.

You could try rolling up a towel and placing it under your hamstrings, it might work the same as what a couple of these guys are doing with the seat mod.
 
If you really wanna drop some cash you could buy scheelman seats. That would probably be the most effective long-term fix you could do

If you can't get the seat jackers in time, there was a guy who got a bunch of stacked washers and longer bolts as a DIY solution.

If I recall he had to bend/flatten the front seat bracket some so the bolt would line up with the hole in the floor, as the seat got higher in the front the hole in the floor is a bit forward from the hole in the seat bracket.

This is good info, had no idea that the 5th gens have more support under the knees. I too suffer from lower back issues and will be seriously working on this solution by raising up the front mounts.

I did replace the lower seat cushion right after purchasing the vehicle.

Its such a huge difference having this support. I mistakenly lowered the front of my seat unknowingly before a long trip and didn't relies it till half way of the trip (5hrs) and my back and legs were killing me. Raised the front of the seat and all was well. The 4Runner (with 5th Gen power seats) is such a comfortable long trip vehicle.

Yeah, i have seen some people complain about this. Not an issue for me (luckily) and i swapped my stock tires for for C rated AT's. I think the issue is a combo of bad balancing and people putting overrated E rated tires on there 4R's.
