So now with the running boards off, every little puddle, dirt, salt or whatever is in the road ends up on the sides of my 99 sr5. What are my options? I don't really like the look of how wide the limited flares are or the bushwackers or the price tag. What have you guys done? Am I damaging my paint?

You can put some mudflaps up front, I don't have the link right now, I am on mobile, but look into it!

Flares won't help you much. Mud flaps or your old running boards will. My junk still gets dirty and I have flares. It's not good for the paint but it's not like it's going to all go to hell before this summer. It will take years to do anything to it.

I have the SR-5 black flares and nearly impossible to find front mud flaps and I still get dirt on my vehicle. About mid way on front doors at about a 45 degree angle on back will look just like your rig if driving on wet fire roads. Really like said before the running boards work best for what you want. Or, and I might do this and that is to install a set of rock sliders and weld inserts on them to close the gaps up.
