Need help deciding between Revo 2 or OME lift

Hello everyone.

I have a dilemma, and need some opinions.

I have a 2004 Sport Edition, V8, Black with DS 1" Level and Spidertrax. Currently riding on soccermom-trip-to-the-mall tires, Uniroyal Laredos, 265/70R17. (Picture at the bottom).

I have $1k set aside for truck improvements this spring. (Tires or lift?) Should I:

1) Buy 5 Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2 in 265/70R17, then add the OME lift later

2) Buy the OME Full Suspension, then come back and add tires in a little.

My heart says #1, because I would love the tires immediately, as opposed to #2, where I'll sit a little higher, but still hate the tires. My brain says #2, because I still have plenty of tread left on the laredos, and with the additional height, I could theoretically go a little bigger than the 265/70s later this year when more "runner-money" is available.

I think this would be a no-brainer (#1) if I could sell my current tires that have some tread left (~1/4"?). Do people do that? Is craigslist the best place? I don't want to pay my tire place $5 per tire or something to throw them away for me.

Get the OME lift, and you can run some larger tires. By the tires now and lift later you are stuck with the smaller tire size. Do the lift yourself and save some bucks (its pretty simple). Look around here on the classifieds or craigslist for some used tires. That way you can have a lifted set up with some larger new to you tires! :tongue:

My vote is tires 1st then a lift.

My question to you is why Revo 2? There are better tires for less cost.

When I bought my 265/70 17s the guy at Discount Tire told me to not worry about same size spare because the difference between 265 65 & 265 70 is nominal, the likelihood of needing a spare, in general, is minimal and a waste of money (sales guy telling me this). My inital thought was to buy a $20 265 70 used tire for the spare but Tire guy talked me out that too.

If you buy 4 tires now you have an extra $200, what are you going to do?

Why do you want the OME? It sounds to me like you could get by for less. Some people do, but most don't spend the money on a setup like the ome and still run a mild all terrain tire. If the Revos suit your needs, you could most likely get by without the ome. Pure speculation here, correct me if I'm wrong.

With the proper planning, I think you can do both and stay within your budget. It would be best if you could provide some info on why you've chose these particular options.

Good point. I was hoping that the 265/70s wouldn't be too small with the lift. My intention was to buy new tires once, not twice. I'll keep this in mind.

I am about 90% on-road, and most of this decision is about what looks good (don't hate me!) and what is most highly rated. I love the BFG All-terrains, but I find that people either love them or hate them. Revo 2's were much higher rated...

Alright, scratch that. I just looked again on tire rack, and BFG ATs are more highly rated. Somewhere, I saw their ratings were almost half of the Revos. Woops. I love the BFGs more anyway. more anyway. Wuhoo!

I have a 265/70 spare already that's never been on the road, but I figured with 5 tires, I could rotate the 5th one in...but maybe I can just leave it out of the rotation...

Why do you want the OME?

I'm mostly interested in the OMEs because they look like the most cost effective package, and everyone seems to like them. There are some other lift kits out there, but they are $1500ish, so the $800ish OME kit looked good.

What more cost effective options should I be looking at?

(I think the daystar 2.5/1.5 would give me the ride height I'm looking for (don't need a crazy lift), but I'd rather do it with new coils/struts. Does any of that make sense?)

I'd go OME, then save for some tires. and I would not get revos unless it's just a street queen. there are many better a/t tires for less money. and get 285s while you're at it, you'll love em.

IMO a spacer lift would better suit your needs. Go with the daystar as you mentioned or maybe the Toytec or Cornfed 3/2 kit. If you're not off roading, no need for the ome. I would consider either a full fj suspension swap or bilstein 5100s with fj coils. At most you're looking at $500 for a 3/2 lift. How many miles on your 4runner?

The bfg ats are good tires, but nowhere near as good as the Revo 2s for 90% on road driving. Also, look into Firestone destination ats. They are excellent tires and a little cheaper than the revos. Also, they come in a 275/70/17 (I think) which is a nice compromise in tire size.

100k miles. Original XREAS.

Toytec has a set of 5100s for $399. Trying to find a set for less money.

Yeah, it's pretty much a street queen. I can't hide it anymore. The Firestone's look nice, but the Revos just grab me more.

No problem, glad you've found it beneficial. I've used ajusa.com for my 5100s. Just looked them up, $337 shipped, rears are backordered though. Here's my recommended setup.
Revo 2s
Bilstein 5100s with FJ coils (3" front, .5" rear)
Daystar 1.5" rear spacer (under $40 from 4wheelparts.com)

I would suggest the lift first, then tires if you are unable to do both. Remember you'll need an alignment after the lift. Tire size is up to you, consider 265/70/17, 255/75/17, & 285/70/27. There are pros and cons to each, but all would do well for you.
