Need help from the experts - suspension

Yes, I am sorry - another suspension thread. There is a ton of information on here, and it's pretty overwhelming.

The stock suspension on my '99 Hilux Surf is tired. Even set on the "Hard" position, I will often hit the stops going over speed bumps.

I am seeking advice for a new suspension set up given these parameters:
- close to stock height, I can handle up to a 1" increase in lift
- I have a 4x Innovation front bumper and am probably getting a Addicted Offroad rear (++extra weight)
- I tow a teardrop trailer fairly often, it is 900 lb dry weight
- I do very mild wheeling. Mostly while pulling my trailer to get into some nice remote areas.
- I like a slight rake look to my truck

I am in Canada, but can order from the States and have it shipped to my parents place in Montana.

How big are the speed bumps? If you're bottoming out over speed bumps, then your suspension is sagging pretty low. Maybe its time for some new springs.

List up your current suspension mods, as you stated your shocks are set to "hard".

0 mods. Bare stock Hilux. They came from the factory with electric dampers (I think) that could adjust the suspension stiffness. Speed bumps are stand size, nothing fancy. If I fo real slow, it's fine. But zipping over the bumps, or having my trailer on, you can tell the suspension is tired.

You sound like the perfect candidate for a set of OME 2906s in the rear. Do a search, I think they are what you are after.

Then either leave the stocks in the front, get 99 talls, or one of the OME offerings. Which front shock you get (fixed or adjustable) will determine what you want in a spring.

I'd like this to be reasonably economic. I don't wheel hard, so I just want to spend enough for a decent ride considering the weight of the bumpers and the towing I do.

I kinda have the same issue.....I have the 880/906 springs on mine with no armor or anything . I bottom on the stops when I but little dips in the road sometimes. Not sure whats up with that???

If the shocks are soft, the ride can be rough as the wheels can move farther than they are supposed to.

If you like the ride height you are currently at, look into new shocks. OEM, Bilstein 4600 or 5100, etc.

You are bottoming OME 2906s in the rear with no added weight?? Something doesn't make sense. These are a heavier load hauler spring.

Remember, the springs support the 'sprung' weight of the truck, and shocks only keep the springs from uncontrolled movement. That being said, if the shocks compression valving is too high, then they will add to the spring rate and make a choppy ride. There are lots of good shocks out there, with Bilstein being the best shock for the money, IMO.

And yes you need more spring rate to compensate for the extra weight of your bumpers, although the rear bumper will only add about 60lbs over the stock bumper+receiver hitch combo. With those Old Man Emu springs in the back and an adjustable Bilstein coilover in front, you should be able to tune the rake to your liking.

Those coilovers for the front look spendy! Is that primarily because they can be adjusted for height?
