Need help immediately!!!!

I found this on Craigslist, and am thinking about buying it. I will pick it up today after work if you guys think it's worth it. My dash is horrible looking from all the cracks and crevaces, and this looks like it might be a pretty good deal.

Also, how hard is it to take the old one out, and put the new one in? My 4Runner is a 2004, so this should match up perfectly.

Please let me know what you guys think

I'd say it's a least worth a look. For that price. If you don't think it's worth it, walk away. Especially if your dash is in bad shape.

I've never taken the whole thing out, but the good news is, that since you've got a loose one, you can see how it should go in and out.

Thanks. I've been looking for different ways to fix my dash. This looks like a really good idea, at least to try and see what it looks like. I just wish I knew how hard it is to take the dash completely apart.

Exactly! I was thinking that if I do all the work to take the head unit out, it can't be but a few steps more to get the whole dash out right?

It looks pretty involved according the Hanes manual. You need to:

Remove the trim panels which include
- knee bolster
- instrument cluster bezel and instrument cluster
- glove box door and finish panel
- kick panels
- insulating panel

Remove Steering column covers

Remove center console

Remove head unit and HVAC cluster

Then
- disconnect and remove passenger airbag
- disconnect and lower steering column
- remove front pillar trim
- numerous electrical connectors and fasteners

They also note that:
- it is a 2 person job
- is difficult with hidden fasteners and difficult working angles and should be done by experienced individuals
- and suggest pulling both front seats to allow room to work

So yeah... a little more difficult than a head unit swap. Hope that helps.

lol, thanks. I'm not going to do it now. It's way too much work involved, and I'll just probably end up screwing something else up and cost me more money in the long run. Thanks for all the help.
