Need Help, Please! Volant Install

Ok, just installed my volant intake. First off, what crappy instructions! My 3 yo old could have done better. Off to my problem. I diconnected the battery during the install. When I went on my test drive after my 4 hr install, (dont ask). Somehow the center diff was locked along with all lights on on my test drive. After driving maybe a mile at roughly 50mph I heard a lot of clicking/clunking in the drivetrain under roughly the front passenger area. I pulled over got out and it smelled like the whole damn thing was on fire. Once I realized the center was locked, I disconnected it and it now seems to run ok (still smells burnt though). Did I mess something up? Any way I can troubleshoot this without bringing it into the dealer.

now that I think about it....

My parking brake was activated also. Could driving with the parking brake on cause this "Clicking" sound and the horrible burnt smell?

you drove that far with the park brake on??

take off the park brake, and drive it again, if the clicking goes away, it was the park brake. As far as the other things acting up, did you touch any wires besides the MAF sensor when installing the intake?

I wonder if you somehow triggered VSC with the parking brake engaged. It may have tried to brake the front wheels or drop power to compensate somehow.

Make sure the brake is off and try to drive it and see if you still have those issues. You were probably smelling the brakes burning a little. I would also have someone check your rotors and pads... After a test drive at 50 mph with the brake engaged, they are probably toast.

Sound like you fried the parking brake shoes. I think the 4Runner uses a separate brake shoe with an inner drum on the rear rotors. I have not looked at the emergency brakes yet but most Toyotas use this type of emergency brake system. You will need to check the rear emergency brake shoes, rotor/drum for damage. If that is all that needs to be replaced you will be lucky.

After thinking about this more, I think it was the parking brake. I friend who helped with the install, for some reason set the brake and when I went on my test drive, the brake interior light was on just like the others (vsc, maintenance, etc). The runner seems to run fine now....

FYI on the Volant install

For those folks who install this intake, FYI, the MAF's shiny side should be faced "backwards" towards the cabin. THis part was very counter- intuitive. I thought I messed up the maf during the install but it was just installed backawards.
