Need help programming my key fob. (Actuators not engaging -- SOLVED --)

Hi guys,

I have a 2001 which had an aftermarket keyless entry system installed by the previous owner. I removed the aftermarket setup and am trying to program an oem key fob.

I tried the method which involved going cycling the lock switch 5 times, but was unsuccessful to fall into the programming mode. After the second cycle the switch would stop locking and unlocking the front doors.

I then tried another method I found online which did not involve cycling the locks. This seemed to be successful as the locks auto cycled to show I was in programming mode.

Even though it was going into the programming mode the key fob would not program. Do I have the wrong key fob?? The FCC ID is HYQ12BBX.

I'm not sure whats going on. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Try it again (the method you did first) and when you press the lock/unlock button, manually lock/unlock it at the same time. This worked for me when my actuator wasn't strong enough to cycle the locks.

I just tried it like you said (by manually moving the lock while pressing the buttons) and it worked!! :bounce:

Thanks! I had the same problem as OP yesterday - received a different set of programming instructions that did not involve cycling through the locks. The seller then sent a new set of instructions that involved cycling the auto locks. My locks were also not fully engaging and your method worked for me.

This work with 98 also? After 2nd or 3rd cycle mine start to give up on me, I ordered two fobs waiting for them to arrive so I was gonna do this also

No. 98 uses the green button on the RS3000 box (likely under your drivers seat)

Just wanted to pop back in and say correct however I did manage to get mine working didn’t even need the kick actuator to work

I figured it out!!! Do not use the lock/unlock button inside the car--use the key in the door:

1. Unlock all doors and open the driver's door. Leave open.
2. Insert key into ignition, remove it
3. While still open, insert key into driver's door and Lock/Unlock 5 times
4. Close door and reopen
5. While open, insert key into driver's door and Lock/Unlock 5 times
6. Inset key into ignition and turn to "on (do not start) then off.

Locks will cycle

7. On FOB, press lock and unlock simultaneously
8. Then press unlock

This addresses the issue of those who have older actuators that can't quite make it through the lock/unlock cycle.
