Need help to ID something on engine

That thin steel line with nothing attached at either end...what is it? On the right there is a hard line or something that appears capped, and on the left there is a cut plastic hose clamp. No idea if something should be attached to it or not. Help guys!

The steel line looks like its for a vacuum line. The plastic clamp is likely to secure that wire loom to the left of the clamp.

On the passenger side end, it runs down by the back of the tb. On mine.... It goes to the circular metal diaphragm. On the other end it tees in to that port you pictured and runs down under the fuse panel. I have no idea where this end actually goes. I probably should research this as well.

If it helps, my check engine light is on but I don't remember the code, just that it's a generic "exhaust leak" code. Ugh, this is driving me mad.

I believe it goes to the vacuum connection on the TB. The other end goes to the lower intake manifold which looks like it has a OEM cap on it. The clamp holds the MAF wire harness. Do you have a 5 speed?

Automatic. I just don't remember seeing this tube on my 00' Limited I had, but it had the Elocker, coincidence?

The driver's side of that tube should have a rubber 90 degree elbow on it that takes it's vacuum from a nipple on the back of the driver's side of the intake manifold right where it meets up with the lower intake manifold.

The passenger side of that tube should have about a 6.5" rubber hose on it that hits a diaphragm on the throttle body as mentioned above. In the parts diagram it's 90999-92002 L170 and L60 (where L=length in mm).

EDIT: I should say the vehicle I'm basing this off of is a '98 4Runner 4x4 automatic w/locking rear diff.

This truck didn't come with one. I swapped it in. Sorry to distract from the matter at hand.

Here are the pictures. I don't want to use the /img tag because I think it'll clutter your thread.

Small pipe as it meets the 60mm vac line to the intake manifold (your intake manifold vac source is capped). Also notice the thicker aluminum pipe that's sandwiched between the two smaller pipes. Yours doesn't have this, I'm guessing because it's a newer engine and it makes use of a rubber hose vs. rubber to hard to rubber - the brochure picture of the 2002 5VZ-FE in a 4Runner shows a configuration like yours, so I wouldn't sweat the fact you don't have this hard line on your intake manifold:

Wish I could be of more help, but I think you're in the clear here. If you google (yeah, I know, it sucks) 2002 5VZ-FE and disregard all of the JDM engine pictures, you'll see that most look like yours - with bare ends on both sides of that pipe. I picked 2002 because when I did 1999, 2000 and 2001 it was cluttered with a bunch of pics of '96-'98 setups.

Wow thanks man! Guess I'll just not worry about that part and continue investigating this random exhaust leak prompting the check engine light. Any thoughts on the exhaust leak? Don't have the codes (yeah I know), but new 02 sensors and cat were put on within the last few months.

I don't hear a leak but I haven't run the ol' water hose test yet either. Thanks everyone for contributing, I LOVE THIS FORUM.
