need help: truck is running like crap...

yes compared to a transmission almost any part is cheep lol, should be like $40 or so. and yes you should be able to get it at almost any auto parts store. get a fuel filter too while your there

Ok so idk if the guy was trying to scare the **** outta me or what so ill spend the $400 in their shop but he was like "not too scare you but if ur going down hwy @ say 50mph and the u-joint breaks, you could probably go flipping down the road! U need to replace this fast"

yeah i dont think youd flip down the hwy, but you might roll lol, na youd just lose the driveline and that could cause some more serious damage like ripping out the rear axle, and or destroying the 3rd member(rear diff), so yeah its best to have them replaced asap, $400 seams kinda steep though ouch!

it could happen but the chances of it are like 1 in a million........and dependent upon the car, i don't think our 4runners would ever do a drive line flip.......

it could be one of the non-serviceable ones right? or even both of them?
without it being itemized who knows how it breaks down and what 400 is for,
i doubt it's for a single u-joint replacement.

they didn't tell the girl your trans was toast so we got to give them a little bit of credit....maybe not much credit but a little bit...haha
 
Yeah its for 2 u-joints and 3.5hrs labor...$120 for the parts and $288 labor. And he said my rear brake something is leaking (he showed me so i did see it) and i need rear brakes, wont pass inspection which im still ridin' around on 8/11 sticker! Im such a rebel lmao raawwwrrr ;)

i haven't checked everything out but that still seems about right maybe a tad more expensive then another palce, but that's right in there...

parts are $120..maybe they are and if they are $120 make sure for a fact they are OEM toyota and not some after market cheapie replacement...

that said, standard for labour in a shop is around $60/hr x 3.5 hr=$210 plus the parts again

$330+tax

is what i come up with, and for all i know it could be $65 or $80 an hour, but your not too far off, with what i came up with from just using a low end average on labour...$77 difference..maybe..maybe?

ran it on a calc for you real quick, he's charging you 82 an hour if taxes aren't included less if it's $407 out the door...and still that's not terrible....you might be able to do better somewhere else, but that shop isn't fleecing you by any means imo.

cool ,well good, luck and i'm sure your going to have a few more things popping up here and there with sort of mileage on it, just make sure you get all of the fluids changed at the proper intervals and keep up on the maintenance.....besides that if you have anything else,we'll be here to help!

I was reading this from the beginning and was thinking, "this sounds like when my U-joint went in my Tacoma". Bingo! Good to hear you got it figured out.

Ummm yeah ok so i called parts store....the u-joint, is it small in size? Like could hold it in the palm of ur hand?? If so, theyre ONLY $15 bux a piece!! WTF???? Lol i get a shop has to mark sh*t up but REALLY??? That much?! They should go to jail for rape good grief ha

Hahaha. The only things I can diagnose online are things that I've experienced first hand, which isn't a big list. I would have looked earlier, but I thought it was t4r4life's thread. Similar titles.
