Need Help With Door Locks

I've got a 2011 LE. I had the door locks programmed to where it would NOT automatically unlock the door when put into park.

I don't know how it happened but it has now reverted to the original settings of unlocking all doors when put into park. I work in very dangerous areas so I prefer for the doors to remain locked unless I need to unlock them.

I read how to change the setting in the manual on page 55 but can't get it to change. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong so was hoping one of you guys here know how to reprogram the door locks.

Has anyone here reprogrammed locks? If so, please tell me how you did it.

Hi Gasdoc,

Your door-lock function 'IS customize-able' but does require specialized tools/equipment; only available at your local Toyota dealership! "See pg 660 (2012 manual top of pg, 2011 may be different) in your Toyota hand-book!" rgds

I was able to do it following the instructions on pages 53-55.

-Close all the doors and turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch to IGNITION ON mode. (Perform step 2 within 20 seconds.)
-Shift the shift lever to P and press and hold the driver's door power lock switch in the locked position for approximately 5 seconds and then release.

That should be all you need to do.

I tried it but could not get it to work. I was wondering if there was some sort of trick or something I was missing. I'll probably just end up taking it to Toyota and get them to reprogram it.

6. Give it the 'ol college try.
7. Drink beer
8. Analyze what you did wrong.
9. Drink beer
10. Try again.

Seriously, the key point to remember is timing. If the manual says "2 seconds" it means two seconds. Not 1.5, not 2.5 but 2 seconds. Good luck!

I guess six posts talking about beer out of 4000+ posts is most of the time lol. I like it! I have posted this before and am a firm believer that when trying to figure out door lock or home link programming a beer or three is much more helpful than not!

I wish our dealer had SST-6PK or SST-JCK-C0K3 to use when diagnosing vehicles.

I've tried it multiple times and still can't get it to work. And yes, I did have a couple beers but still no luck.

It is the timing. As near as I can tell it has to be almost exactly the time specified in the manual. I discovered this a few years ago when changing my TE door lock settings. I just did my new SR5 door lock settings and it took several tries before I got it, even though I knew the timing had to be just right.

Just turned the ignition to "ON".

Then I shifted to "N"

Then I held the "unlock" down for five seconds, timed by my phone's stop watch. I did this numerous times, and kept hearing a "double lock noise" coming when I released after five seconds, which I think in hindsight may be a sign you did it right.

I did not think it worked, because it unlocked the doors when I put it back from "N" to "P". But the next day when I drove it, it actually did work, and it disabled any auto-unlocking feature, which is what I really wanted. So maybe it has to be started or something for the change to take effect?
