need help with loud clunk in front end

every time im making a left u-turn, if i hit a speed bump or curb edge i get a noticeably loud metal on metal clank noise from the front end. i never make right u-turns so i have no idea if it happens then too.

i have checked for play or looseness in front end and found nothing wrong

the truck will drive straight for damn near a mile after letting go of steering wheel and there is no shake or vibration from it at any speed. both front bearings were recently replaced a few hundred miles ago and it had this noise before that so its not that.

no matter how many bumps i hit there is no noise at any other time, its just when the steering is maxed out in a left turn and i hit something like a pot hole or curb that gives the wheel a quick upward impact and then i hear the noise

i checked the front end and everything is tight and in great condition. there is no undo movement or signs of any wear on A-arm bushings either and the front struts look great and no signs of anything lose or moving

can anyone help me figure this out? could this be something normal to have a metallic clank?

we jacked up the front end and used a pry bar to work the wheel and found nothing out of whack

From researching my own clunk issues, I see many people recommend to grease your turning stops. Search that for more info and pictures. It's where your spindle meets the LCA to prevent further steering. Noises occurring under full lock are an indication you need to grease them.

this was happening on my wife's outback and it turned out to be the sway bar end links. did you take a look at those?

This was going to be my recommendation as well. Maybe a tie rod?

Do you feel anything while driving in a straight line at higher speeds like wobbling, wandering etc?

Take the front sway bar completely out of the vehicle and see if the noise is there still. Could be contacting something when you turn that specific way. This will at least take that component out of the equation.
