Need Help with Sport Hood

So I found a sport hood locally that is apparently in good condition. I'm probably going to go check it out soon. I also know that it will fit. I'm also going to be able to buy it for $200, I think that's a good deal.

I had a few questions:

1. How much do you think painting will be? I'm guess somewhere around $200. I'm not taking it to Macco or any other shop that looks bad.

2. Do you think any shop can match my color. I have the Desert Dune. I know that if it were new it wouldn't be a problem, but it has seen 10 years of weather so it might be a little faded or something.

3. Should I get the shop to paint the insert the same color as the hood or paint the mesh black? Maybe a different combination?

Pay the premium for the paint since the hood is one of the body parts that takes the abuse physically and from the harsh sunlight.

I'd just paint to match the rest of the hood and any professional shop shouldn't have issues matching the paint.
 
Just make sure you talk to the shop about the color match before you agree to any work ..... if you want it to match exactly they will probably want to blend into the fenders and front end, which will cost more. If you want them to do the best they can off the paint code or a paint color analyzer, then don't be surprised if the paint does turn out a slightly different shade.
 
Good points. I know I shouldn't be cheap, I just have college, senior week, and other things coming up... But on the other hand I REALLY want a sport hood.

I thought $200 was a really good deal considering how rare they are and also the price from the dealer.

if you have other expences i would buy the hood and hang on to it until you can afford to paint it. you have no idea how fortunite you are to have found one. ive been looking for a sport hood for 4 years now. also consider selling your current hood to help pay for painting the sport hood
 
Good points. I've called around today and the quotes have been anywhere from $250-$400 with most being around $350. Not good news for me.

I had been thinking about just buying it and hanging on to it and now that you mention it it dosen't sound so bad. I think I could resell it for $200 if I decided not to use it.

Just the fact that it's rare makes me want to buy it.

if you end up not using it, i will buy it from you. ill probably even give you 250 for it
 
Clemson..........get the hood man! get it its a good find and damn your lucky to have found one close by. it would always be sellable if you dont want it so its a win win situation.
 
It is a blue color now. I still haven't gone to look at it. That means it could only be one of two blue colors since I think there were three available and only two were available the years of that the sport was produced.
 
I haven't actually looked on the underside of a 4runner sport hood but is it functional? The reason i ask is that my mom has a 04 Rav4 "sport or S" and it has a scoop that isn't functional.

that is only true in the states ... it was done originally on the hilux to feed air to the intercooler on diesel engines.
