Need new key and Keyless entry but where to go?

Hey guys I just recently bought an 03 limited 4x4 and the guy only had one key and he had lost the keyless entry so I was just wondering where the best place to get a new key is and also a keyless entry. I know I can go to the stealership but wasn't sure if there were any more options. Thanks for the help

ebay for the key and RKE.

Lots of threads to program your key and remote on site. Dealership wants your first born to make a key for you. Same goes for the remote keyless entry.

Remotes (RKE) is easy to program too.

Everything's on T4R.org. Search is your friend. You can search specific forums on T4R, too; it's makes it easier to find things.

In order to make a key, your key must be a Master - it is black. The valet key is gray - it cannot make another key. Hope your got a Master key, because if you don't you need to take a trip to the dealer....

Did you get a owner's manual?

Thanks guys. I did get an owners manual but it was for an 05 and mine is an 03. I will do some searching about the keys. Aren't the keys electronic or chipped or something of that sort so I can't just have another made though?

Yeah, the keys are chipped. Only a master key(black) that is already registered with the vehicle's computer can register another key with the onboard computer.

You can get a blank master on ebay or elsewhere, have it cut by your dealer, or Ace Hardware or the like, and program it yourself with the instructions on the boards.

Just because the key is chipped, doesn't mean it can't be cut by a 3rd party. But in order for the key to work, you need the a master key to use to register the new key with the car's computer.

Locksmith's are another option, rather than go to the dealer, or do it yourself.

An 05 manual is ok.

For the key and RKE you can buy
Off eBay and program the RKE yourself. It's not too hard, many threads on it here and a quick google search with turn up good answers/ instructions.

You will need a chipped key to program the new key, though.

thanks for all the help guys. Well it does get better mileage than my 05 tacoma double cab long bed 4x4 but still kicking myself for selling it but o well. I have another yota to tinker with

Sorry for the jack....Does the same apply to a 2000 4runner? Chipped key programming etc? Mine only came with one key and remote as well. I know I can get a remote on eBay, was wondering if the key is chipped in my 2k runner?

There is a guy buy me that has a new key fob for sale. I purchased some other parts from him and was very satisfied. I believe he was asking 25 dollars for it.
