need opinion on shady dealer

I think it worth a try to check a VIN, althouhg I doubt it will give you nything but who knows.... And I'd try to fight for a new truck and see what I can get from it. Anyway, keep us posted : )

So here is my update:
Will try to keep it brief….

Took to dealer Saturday morning. Basically not one person know what the hell I was there for. After some runaround, I was instructed to turn my car into the service manager.
I didn’t get into a big dissertation, I simply said “I bought this truck last week and someone forgot to give me new rims and tires. I want new rims and tires and if this is not gonna happen, let me know so I can take this to someone that will make this happen"
Service mgr said that he would verify and let me know what they were going to do.
After almost 3 hours, new rims and tires were on the truck. Got 4 new rims, matching duelers (which I personally think are better than the Dunflops).

When I asked my relative what they did, they just swapped from another truck. This is sad - I am pretty sure this will become someone else’s problem later.

With respect to the paint; I checked the entire under carriage on the front bumper, wheel wells, behind lights, etc. No overspray. Using my CSI skills and some clever hypothesis, it would seem the front corner of the bumper was scratched (by the headlight) and repaired to look “new”. I would say it was likely damaged during delivery or unloading. Unfortunately, this happens more than people think in South FL. My only problem is that the dealer can still sell the car as new and never disclose the damage….which I think is horsepoop. The last car I purchased, I almost had the same thing happen….only the dealer told me about the damage which I think is the right thing to do.
Anyway, Had this dealer given me an ounce of crap about the wheels, I would have unloaded the whole paint issue and definitely would have pressed for a new ride.

In the end, the repair is so minor, 95% of the population would never have picked it out. Since I am engineer I am extremely OCD about fit and finish plus I do my own detailing... so I know what "cut to fit, paint to match" looks like.
Long story short, I decided to keep the truck.

Very disappointed with the dealer. Not once did anyone of any management level come to talk to me, apologize or introduce themselves to me. My relative came to talk to me a few times, but he is a finance guy – not in sales or customer service. I think he was embarrassed that they behaved the way they did.
In sitting in the service waiting area, I recalled that I had been there about 21 years before. My experience was $hitty then too. I can say I will never go back there for anything EVER again.

As far as my ride is concerned - on the drive home, no wheel vibe, good smooth ride on the highway.

Other than the concession about the paint, the truck looks/drives well and I am pretty happy. I just wish it could have been that way when I first took delivery.

Thanks for reading.

Glad you got it worked out. You could probably still raise a stink about the paint. Damage sometimes happens in the transport process and it's not uncommon for them to fix it. But the expectation is that they fix it to new condition. I know you are okay with it, but keep in mind that when you decide to trade another dealer or even that dealer, they may ding the value because it's been repaired. When I took my Z in last year they noted a small uneven layer in the clear coat on the bottom of the bumper cover. I had the front end professionally repainted a few months prior to address some chips from road debris. It was only visible with a flashlight at the perfect angle but they still found it and it slightly decrease my offer. I'd let them compensate you somehow, but if you are fine with it, move on enjoy the new ride!

I am sure you are glad to put this behind you! Be sure to log a complaint with the Toyota Headquarters against the dealership.

Not just South FL. This happens to pretty much every manufacturer all over the country. There was a big court case a few years ago regarding a BMW that was heavily damaged on the boat and repaired and sold as new. Most manufacturers have shops set up at/near the port to correct any damage before the car is shipped out to the dealer.

It does suck though!
