Need opinions about cracked dash dealer repair

So, two days ago, I received my "warranty enhancement" paperwork in the mail informing me of the May repair. My concern/question is this: those of you whom have aftermarket stereo head unit, do you trust their techs to competently remove and reinstall properly? I installed a Sony touchscreen/DVD/GPS head unit in my Runner (I used to do installations for money while in college) and installed it properly. Maybe I'm concerned about nothing, but I just do not want someone "half-assing" the re-installation. Do you all think I should remove my head unit BEFORE they do the dash replacement and simply reinstall the HU myself? Maybe this is a good question for [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION].

That is a really good point you bring up. I would think the safest bet would be to do just like you said and pull it out yourself. That way you know it will be installed correctly afterwards.

Na man... we'll just cut all the wires off and throw that shit in the back (gently of course, we ARE professionals!) and then jam that f***er back in when we're done. A little JB Weld for whatever breaks and you're good to go!

If its got plugs on the back then it shouldn't be too big a deal to unplug/re-plug it in. If the bezel and/or stereo needs special mounts/plates/ect. to be installed that need to be lined up super special and such it may be better to remove it yourself when the time comes as many technicians may not have the patience for that.

Haha. No, mine has a wiring harness adapter plug soldered to the head unit so it's just a matter of unplugging it, as well as the steering wheel interface, RCA amp jacks and antennas. Well, I think that settles it for me. I will pull my head unit before I take it to the dealership. I'll save them the trouble and me, the worry.
