Need Some Advice - V-6 or V-8?

I am on the verge of buying a new 4runner (2003). I actually was going to buy a second hand one, but I have read so many good reviews about the newer models too, and the vehicle received SUV of the year in one of the threads I read here, so I couldn't resist. Anyways I would just like to hear people's opinions on whether to buy the V-6 or the V-8 Limited Edition model? I am not concerned about gas mileage but maybe someone could point out some of the pros and cons of the V-6 and the V-8?

Oh yeah, and do you get better handling/control with the V-6 in rear wheel drive mode? Cuz I know in the 3rd gen models, when the suv is kicked into 4WD, it is tougher to make tighter turns and acceleration. Sorry if this is vague, but I am in a rush to go somewhere

Net -- they are both excellent engines. Figure out what you will be doing with the truck and match that to the engine that will suit your needs best.

For example, if you're going to regularly tow something fairly large, definitely go with the V8. If it's just a run-around-town vehicle, the V6 is plenty of power, and we have folks towing 3,500-lb. boats with the engine.

I'm as happy with my V6 as others are with their V8.

As far as the turns in 4WD mode, I've not noticed a difference in handling between 2WD and 4WD mode.

Thanks for the helpful advice (and link) jharris2. I just got back from the dealership six hours ago and I purchased a new 2003 Limited Edition 4runner with a V-8 (4WD) since I am planning on doing some off-roading in it (hopefully). Decided to play it safe and stick with the bigger engine. I was able to test drive it before I bought it and it was beautiful, and of course hooked. It was the last V-8 LTD in the dealership so I had to take advantage of the opportunity. Anyways, thanks for the help, and I am glad to be part of the club
