Need some assistance putting together an HID kit

Hi all,

I was toying the idea of using Rigid light bars and their new lower grill with Dually D2s but after cost and only part-time usage, HIDs really seem like the ticket to get first.

I looked around and of course, the LS430 and LS460 debate is big. The light output and pattern seem good on both, the LS430 seems slightly better but I like that the 460 fills up more of the housing, and they are available at TRS right now. But after researching what relays to use, I found out that the bixenon feature can't be used. Ouch! For users with the LS460, do you even notice much difference with your high beams on in terms of output and width?

After looking around more, it seems the RX350 and FX45 are capable of having the bixenon functionality in the 5th gen 4R. The problem is, I can't find a comparison using the LS460 regarding low-beam output, width, drop off etc. These 3 setups are the only ones I'm interested in, all with the clear lens upgrade.

Lastly, my 4R SR5 is black and I'm trying to decide if the TE headlights are too black with the HID projectors in there. I'll have to dig a little deeper to find comparison pictures with black vehicles. Or if anyone reading this has a black 4R with an HID retrofit, please post them up!

The only things I'm set on are the D2S bulb, Osram SVS as I understand this is the best performing bulb out there and most reliable, attributes I'm after. Also, the Denso slim 35watt ballast which will not have the highest output, but longest bulb life, reliable unit and Denso is used in OEM setups which I prefer.

Which relay to get I'm a confused on. Not sure if it depends if you get the bixenon features like on the RX350 and FX45 or if the same one can be used on the LS460 setup.

There are lots of install threads, which I can tell will be extremely helpful. But this is an expensive upgrade and choosing parts is critical (especially because I'm up in Canada) and want it done right the first time

Also still deciding between SR5 or TE headlights on the black 4R. Leaning towards the TE after seeing Jay's.

Looks like an awesome setup! I've been in contact with Matt @ TRS for some time now, and he's put together a similar setup but, using the LS 430 projectors and Philips 85122+ bulbs. Like you, I was on the fence between the 460s and 430s but finally decided on the 430s. Is TRS replacing the bi-xenon solenoid with the Morimoto one? That's the only way I believe they're going to fit in our housings. When I talked to Caesar at LightWerkz, he didn't think the OEM bi-xenons would fit without the modified solenoid. I also was looking at the TLs, but he felt they wouldn't fit either.

Have you looked at HID Planet? I've read that some people didn't like the high beams of the bi-xenon LS460. They didn't provide a nice beam pattern compared with other projectors. Since we already have a separate high beam, I didn't think that the bi-xenon is necessary, thus saving some money on the projectors (except for the LS430), and also simplifying the wiring. Just food for thought. I think the low beam LS460s are nearly half the price of the bi-xenon.

I think the TEs will look awesome on a black SR5. Anyhow, hope that everything goes well. After you're done retrofitting, post up output shots!

Projector size is the issue, not the wiring. Honestly, you'll be just fine with the output of the projectors and the stock high beams.

It'll look good if that's the look you want to go for.

The wiring harness is going to take the 12v power from your vehicles harness (stock low beam) to trigger the relay. Once triggered, 12v will be sent to the ballasts to control the HIDs. So, Turning the headlight switch ON now acts as a switch to let power through the relay to the HIDs.

A bixenon setup will (should) require two relays in the wiring harness. One for the low and high beam. From the low beam relay, it will go to the HID ballast, then D2S bulb as normal. The high beam relay will trigger the solenoid on the projector.

When I spoke to Andrew, he did mention a solenoid modification, however I wasn't sure exactly what this was so I told him to let Caesar deal with it. Now I'm not so sure he will be able to so I'll definitely get that cleared up.

A bixenon setup would be ideal and the reason why I chose to go with the LS460. Regarding price, yes they're more expensive unfortunately. Additionally, I just prefer the look of the LS460 vs the LS430 I think because of the shape and moreso the size. Lastly, I did read about the high beam pattern. But from my point of view, it is an improvement over stock and if I'm spending this kind of money, I might as well go all out

You know what would be awesome, if someone installed the 2010+ LS460 projectors. I think they are low beam only but I like the look of them over the previous year's. So far, only a couple HID Planet members are toying with those.

Your setup should be pretty awesome. Another thing I forgot to mention is that Caeser told me he didn't recommend OEM projectors with aftermarket modifications because i was also interested in the modified LS460s. I'm sure it'll work just fine, but just wanted to relay what Lightwerkz said.

Lightwerkz must be busy because they usually respond to my emails the same day.

I didn't ask Casear directly about modifying it, other than TRS needed to modify it before he got them.

Anyways, the (expensive) order is in. Got the smoked trail headlights from toyotapartsales, all the parts mentioned above at TRS and get Lightwerkz to do all the retrofitting.

Now the long wait:frog: Maybe I'll finally put in my Satoshi grill while I'm at it haha.

Andrew at TRS didn't specify so I can't imagine they would be. Given that it seems the 2010+ are new anyways, I'd rather have the previous model as it's been fitted and worked on before Hopefully no issues with the solenoid modifications though.

And now the waiting game begins. What did Caesar say for turnaround time? I've been waiting for about 3 weeks now for LS430s. I hope something comes in soon or I may be joining you with those LS460s.
